Short answer: Euro Truck Simulator 2 has no infinite money codes. The only official cheats come from the developer console, which you enable in the config.cfg file and which lets you control the time of day, weather, traffic and game speed, or teleport your truck. If you want more euros, what actually works is saving your game in text format and editing your balance in game.sii. Only do this in single-player, with a backup, and never in multiplayer.
First things first: make a backup
Everything below changes files in your installation or your profile. Before you touch anything, close the game and copy these two items from Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2 to another folder:
- The
config.cfgfile, which stores your general settings. - The
profilesfolder, which holds your profiles and locally stored saves.
If something goes wrong, just put those copies back where they were to restore everything. On macOS the folder is at ~/Library/Application Support/Euro Truck Simulator 2 and on Linux at ~/.local/share/Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Step 1: enable developer mode and the console
SCS Software documents two variables on its modding wiki: g_developer (developer mode) and g_console (console). Both are set to 0 by default.
- With ETS2 closed, open
config.cfgin Notepad or any plain text editor. - Change
uset g_developer "0"touset g_developer "1". - Change
uset g_console "0"touset g_console "1". - Save and launch the game.
- Once you’re on the road, press the key to the left of 1, below Esc (on a Spanish keyboard it’s the
ºkey; on an English one,~).
Inside the console you can use Page Up and Page Down to scroll through the text. If you also want to see game messages in a corner while you drive, type g_minicon 1.
Useful ETS2 console commands
g_set_time 22: sets the clock to 22:00. It takes minutes as a second value (g_set_time 7 45).g_set_weather 1 f: forces bad weather instantly. Use 0 to bring back good weather, andiinstead offfor a gradual change.g_set_climate: changes the active climate, with the same gradual or forced transition option.g_traffic 0: removes traffic. The default value is 1 and the maximum is 10.warp 2: game time runs twice as fast. Values below 1 slow it down.goto "city name": sends the debug camera to that city. It also accepts coordinates.save, pauseandscreenshot: save, pause and take screenshots.
Besides commands, the console lets you change configuration variables documented by SCS. Two of the handiest: g_police 0, which turns off the police simulation and its fines, and g_fuel_simulation, which turns realistic fuel consumption on or off.
Teleport your truck with the free camera
With g_developer enabled, the 0 key on the top row opens the free camera. Fly around with the numpad (8 and 5 for forward and back, 4 and 6 for sideways, 9 and 3 for up and down), position yourself over a road and press Ctrl + F9: your truck appears where the camera is. It’s handy if you get stuck at a scrapyard or in a dead-end area. Since version 1.22 it doesn’t work on World of Trucks online jobs.
Infinite money in Euro Truck Simulator 2: editing game.sii
This is the part most people are looking for. The money command that gets passed around online isn’t in the SCS documentation, and on the game’s Steam forums players confirm that the console has no code for adding money. The method that does work is editing your save:
- In
config.cfg, changeuset g_save_format "0"touset g_save_format "2". The official wiki defines value 2 as «text only»: from then on, saves are stored in a format you can read. - If your profile uses Steam Cloud, turn off syncing in the profile options. That way your saves go to the
profilesfolder in Documents instead of the Steam one. - Start the game, load your profile and make a manual save. Close ETS2.
- Go to
profiles, open your profile’s folder (it has a hexadecimal name), thensaveand the folder of the save you just created. - Open
game.siiin a text editor and search formoney_account:. The number after it is your balance in euros: change it to whatever amount you want, written without periods or commas. - If you also want to level up, the value is in
experience_points:. - Save the file, open the game and load that save.
When you’re done, set g_save_format back to 0. SCS warns that the text format makes saving take longer and can cause stutters during autosaves.
Where you shouldn’t use these cheats
ETS2 cheats are meant for single-player. In multiplayer, the rules change:
- TruckersMP bans, in its hacking and feature abuse section, any tool that alters gameplay, and specifically mentions the game console, trainers and Cheat Engine. Penalties range from six months to a permanent ban.
- Convoy, SCS’s official multiplayer, puts several players in the same session. It’s not a place to use the console, and you shouldn’t bring an edited profile into it.
- Steam achievements: if you want to earn them by playing, create a separate profile for experimenting. Skipping levels or money by editing your save may stop some of them from unlocking naturally.
If you’re interested in playing with others, our Euro Truck Simulator 2 online guide covers your options for playing online. And remember that no legal cheat unlocks paid expansions: the full list is in the ETS2 DLC guide.
Making money fast without cheats
Money is tight at the start of a career, but the game has its own shortcuts. A bank loan lets you buy your first truck early and stop relying on quick jobs. Spread your skill points across ADR (hazardous cargo), long distance, high-value cargo, fragile cargo and just-in-time delivery, which unlock better-paying jobs. The eco driving skill helps you burn less fuel. And in the medium term, garages with hired drivers are the steadiest way to fill your account. Frequently asked questions
What’s the infinite money cheat for Euro Truck Simulator 2?
There’s no code. What works is saving in text format with g_save_format 2 and changing the money_account value in that save’s game.sii file.
I can’t find game.sii or it’s unreadable. What do I do?
If it’s unreadable, the game was saved before you turned on the text format: make a new save. If it doesn’t show up, your profile probably uses Steam Cloud; turn it off in the profile options and save again.
Does the console work on TruckersMP?
Even if you enable it, using it to change gameplay breaks TruckersMP’s rules and can get you a long or permanent ban.
Can I put the game back the way it was?
Yes. Restore your backup of config.cfg and the profiles folder, or set g_developer, g_console and g_save_format back to 0.
