Yes, you can play Euro Truck Simulator 2 online in two ways. The official one is Convoy, the multiplayer mode SCS Software added to the game in 2021: private sessions of up to 8 players, with AI traffic and shared jobs. The other is TruckersMP, a free community-made multiplayer mod with public servers where hundreds of players drive together. On top of that, the official World of Trucks service adds external contracts and community events, although it isn’t multiplayer in itself.
Convoy: ETS2’s official multiplayer
Convoy arrived with update 1.41 and comes included with the game at no extra cost. Here’s how it works:
- Up to 8 players per session. SCS has said it wants to raise the limit in the future, but for now it’s still 8.
- The host is in charge. Whoever creates the session is the admin: they choose the name, whether it has a password and options like the speed limiter.
- Everything is synced. AI traffic, random events, time of day and weather are the same for everyone.
- Shared jobs. You and your friends can haul the same cargo from the same company to the same destination.
- Your progress counts. When you leave the session, the game lets you accept or discard the progress you made before returning to your single-player save.
How to join a Convoy session
- Launch the game and choose Convoy from the main menu.
- Create your own session or find one in the session browser. You can search by session name.
- To play with friends, the easiest way is to be Steam friends and use invites from the Steam overlay.
- If you can’t see your friend’s session, SCS recommends checking that you all have the same download region set in Steam.
You don’t need any DLC to join. However, you’ll only be able to enter the map DLC areas you own.
Mods in Convoy
Since update 1.42, Convoy supports third-party mods, with a maximum of 70 per session. If the host uses a Steam Workshop mod you don’t have, you can download it right from the Steam browser; if the mod isn’t on the Workshop, you’ll have to get it yourself from its official source. World of Trucks is SCS’s official online service for ETS2 and American Truck Simulator. You link it to your profile from within the game, and it gives you access to:
- External contracts: jobs posted online that are logged on your profile. In Convoy, these contracts always enforce the speed limit, even if the host has turned it off.
- Community events: challenges where the whole community adds up kilometers toward a shared goal, with exclusive rewards such as paint jobs or achievements.

How to get started with TruckersMP
- Own a legal copy of the game on Steam. TruckersMP checks it through your Steam profile.
- Sign up at truckersmp.com and link your Steam account.
- Download its Windows launcher, which installs the mod and keeps it up to date.
- Open the launcher, pick the game and the server, and connect.
TruckersMP only works with whichever game version it supports at the time. When SCS releases a big update, it can take a while to catch up; in the meantime, the launcher will warn you and you’ll have to roll back to the previous version from the Betas tab in the game’s properties on Steam.
TruckersMP rules and mods
TruckersMP has its own rulebook and moderators who enforce it. Among other things, it bans ramming other players on purpose or through negligence and blocking the road, and it limits the number of accessories per truck and trailer. Violations are punished with temporary or permanent bans.
It’s much stricter about mods than single-player: it doesn’t freely load whatever is in your mod folder, only the content its team supports. The most important exception is ProMods, which has its own servers on TruckersMP; to join them you need ProMods installed plus the map DLCs it requires.
