As of October 23, 2026, Euro Truck Simulator 2 asks for 25 GB of free space on Steam for the base game, on Windows, macOS and Linux. There’s no official figure with all the map DLCs: the Steam pages for each expansion give wildly different numbers (from 50 MB to 12 GB) and several list nothing at all, so you can’t just add them up. With mods the figure shoots up: a single graphics mod like Ultimate Graphics Mod takes 34.1 GB, more than the game itself. ETS2 has no console version.
Official space for the game and each map DLC

| Going East! | 50 MB | Sep 19, 2013 |

| Road to the Black Sea | Not listed | Dec 5, 2019 |

Source: SCS Software’s Steam pages. The figures for older DLCs were written when they came out (Iberia still lists Windows 7 as the OS), and the West Balkans and Greece figures look like recommended free space, not the actual size of the DLC. That’s why we don’t give a total: any sum would be made up.
How to check how much space your actual install takes
Steam does tell you the exact size on your machine. Before installing, the install dialog shows the space needed for what you own. Once it’s installed, go to Library, right-click Euro Truck Simulator 2, then Properties and Installed Files: that shows how much it takes with your DLCs. If you want a figure to plan around, our recommendation (not official) is to keep 40-50 GB free for the game with all the maps and a few light mods, and quite a bit more if you use graphics mods or large maps.
How much space ETS2 mods take
This is the part that varies the most. A sound or UI mod weighs a few MB, but a highly detailed truck or a large map is measured in GB. Some examples, with the size listed on their Holymod page:
| Mod | Type | Size (mod page) |
|---|---|---|
| Ultimate Graphics Mod | Graphics | 34.1 GB |
| Beyond (TerraMaps) | Map | About 4.2 GB in 5 parts; the author recommends 13 GB free |
| HUNGARY_MAP | Map | 3.5 GB in two .7z files |
| Frosty Winter Weather Mod | Weather | 3 GB |
| Volvo FH 2022 by Sanax | Truck | 2.98 GB |
| Trailers and Cargo Pack by Jazzycat | Trailers | 2.77 GB |
| RusMap | Map | 1.39 GB (.7z) |
| Paris 1:1 Map | Map | 902.4 MB |
| Realistic Weather System | Weather | 4.6 MB |
The ProMods Europe page doesn’t list a size: it downloads as several parts of a .7z archive that, once extracted, leave eight packages (assets, def, dlcsupport, map, media and model1 to model3), as explained in how to install ProMods. Keep in mind that while extracting you need room for both the archive and its contents at the same time. With one heavy graphics mod and two large maps (34.1 + 4.2 + 3.5 GB) you’re already over 40 GB in mods alone.
SSD or hard drive (HDD)?
SCS doesn’t require an SSD in the Steam requirements: ETS2 runs on a hard drive. Even so, an SSD shortens loading screens, and the difference grows the more maps and mods you enable. If your SSD is small, you can create a second Steam library on another drive and move the game from Properties, Installed Files, Move install folder.
Where mods and saves are stored
- Manually installed mods: Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mod.
- Steam Workshop mods: inside your Steam library, in steamapps\workshop\content\227300.
- Profiles and saves: Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles (or steam_profiles if you use Steam Cloud).
- Screenshots: Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\screenshot.
Heads-up: if OneDrive syncs your Documents folder, your mods also take up cloud storage.
How to free up space without breaking your save
- Delete from the mod folder any files you no longer have enabled in the Mod Manager, and remove the .zip or .7z files once they’re extracted.
- In the Workshop, unsubscribe from anything you don’t use: Steam deletes the file.
- Empty the screenshot folder every now and then.
- Don’t delete profiles or steam_profiles: that’s where your saves are. Before removing a map you have a save on, back up the profile: when you load it without that map, the game warns you that mods are missing and it can cause problems.

Frequently asked questions
How many GB is Euro Truck Simulator 2?
Steam asks for 25 GB free for the base game on Windows, macOS and Linux. That’s the official figure as of October 23, 2026; DLCs and mods come on top of that.
How big is ETS2 with all the DLCs?
SCS doesn’t publish a total, and the individual DLC pages aren’t comparable (50 MB for Going East!, 12 GB for West Balkans and Greece, nothing for others). To get your exact figure, check Properties, Installed Files in Steam.
How big is ProMods?
Its page doesn’t give a size. It downloads in several .7z parts and also needs several map DLCs installed (the exact list is on its mod page and on promods.net), so plan for space for the download, the extracted files and the DLCs.
Can you play ETS2 on an HDD?
Yes. The requirements don’t call for an SSD; loading will just take longer, especially with large maps.
Are mods deleted if I reinstall the game?
No. Manual mods and profiles live in Documents, outside the Steam folder. Workshop mods download again if you’re still subscribed.
