Euro Truck Simulator 2 still has no release date on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S (checked on October 22, 2026). SCS Software announced it in August 2025, brought it in playable form on PS5 to the Tokyo Game Show in September 2026, and keeps saying it will give the date when the launch is close. There’s no announced version for PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, so today you can only play on PC (Steam), on Steam Deck or in the cloud with your Steam copy.
What SCS has announced about the console version
These are the facts confirmed by SCS on its blog, on Steam and in its development videos, in order:
- August 20, 2025: at the Future Games Show, SCS announced that ETS2 and ATS are coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The studio said it couldn’t give a date yet and that there was quite a lot of work ahead. The wishlist pages are linked on its official console website (scssoft.com/consoles).
- October 2025: in the first «Road to Consoles» video, Jakub Mráz, SCS console producer, confirmed the games wouldn’t come out in 2025 and that the date would be decided based on internal testing.
- April 2026: in the second development video, SCS explained that its engine, with almost 30 years of code, wasn’t designed to spread work across several processor cores, and that they’re modernizing that architecture. They’re also rebuilding the interface and controls for gamepads. According to the studio, «there’s still a lot of work to do.»
- September 2026: SCS brought a playable version of ETS2 on PS5 to the Tokyo Game Show (September 17 to 21). It was the first time the public could try it.
As of October 2026, there’s no official release date or window. Some outlets take it for granted that it won’t come out before 2027, but that’s a press estimate, not an SCS announcement. When there’s a date, it’ll appear first on the official SCS blog and its social media.
What about PS4 or Xbox One?
No. The announcement only includes PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. SCS hasn’t announced anything for PS4 or Xbox One, and the technical explanation it has given (the game relies heavily on the processor) suggests they’re working with the current generation in mind. If you see videos or websites offering «ETS2 for PS4» or console downloads, they’re fake or misleading: no official version exists.
What it’ll be like on console: what’s confirmed and what’s still unknown
- Gamepad: SCS has redesigned the interface and controls for playing with a gamepad. On PC it has already shown up in testing: the 1.61 experimental beta included a redesigned quick menu and a multifunction display for handling the truck’s lights and functions without memorizing so many keys, also designed for gamepads and wheels, although SCS decided to postpone them to a later update.
- Mods: according to what SCS told the press at the Tokyo Game Show, they want to offer mods on console with the help of an external partner, in a more controlled way than on PC and possibly not from day one. There’s no official announcement on its blog, so treat it as information pending confirmation.
- DLC: also according to reports after the Tokyo Game Show, there would be editions bundling several DLC. Prices and exact contents: not announced.
- Wheels, multiplayer and progress shared with PC: SCS hasn’t released that information yet.
How to play ETS2 today without a powerful PC
PC (Windows, macOS and Linux)
ETS2 is still a PC game, on sale on Steam since 2012. You don’t need a very expensive machine: check the Euro Truck Simulator 2 system requirements before buying. On PC you also get all the DLC and the community’s mods.
Steam Deck
SCS added dedicated Steam Deck support in February 2022: controls adapted to the gamepad, on-screen button prompts, basic touch features and compatibility with Convoy mode. It’s the closest thing to playing ETS2 on a «console» today.
Cloud gaming with your Steam copy
Services such as GeForce NOW or Boosteroid let you play the Steam version of ETS2 on modest computers, phones or TVs, as long as you own the game on your account. «Cloud PC» services (such as Shadow) give you a full remote computer to install it on. Keep two things in mind:
- On services that only launch the game (like GeForce NOW) you don’t have free access to the files, so installing manual mods usually isn’t possible. Check each service’s terms.
- In 2021, NVIDIA announced a beta of GeForce NOW in the Edge browser on Xbox Series X|S, but today its requirements page doesn’t include consoles. Don’t count on it as an official solution. On PlayStation there’s no equivalent route.
Truck games that are on console
While you wait for ETS2, PlayStation and Xbox have other truck simulators from other studios. None of them is ETS2 or has its map, but they’ll do if you want to drive trucks on console:
| Game | Studio or publisher | Consoles |
|---|---|---|
| Truck Driver | SOEDESCO | PS4 and Xbox One (2019) |
| Truck Driver: The American Dream | SOEDESCO | PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (2023) |
| ON THE ROAD – The Truck Simulator | Aerosoft | PS4 and PS5 (2021) |
| Alaskan Road Truckers: Highway Edition | Green Man Gaming Publishing | PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (2024) |
If you’re after off-road trucks rather than delivery routes, SnowRunner is also on PlayStation and Xbox. Check your console store for the version and wheel compatibility before buying.
What to expect
It’s reasonable to expect a console ETS2 with an interface adapted to the gamepad and a more closed mod system than on PC, at least at first. If you’re mainly interested in the social side, ETS2 multiplayer on PC already works with Convoy and TruckersMP. And if you’re wondering whether there’ll be a new installment instead of consoles, we sum it up in Euro Truck Simulator 3: what we know.

The latest on ETS2 on consoles (October 2026)
- September 2026: SCS’s first appearance at the Tokyo Game Show (September 17–21), with ETS2 playable on PS5. No date was announced.
- May 2026: SCS reported that more than one million users had added ETS2 and ATS to their wishlists on PlayStation and Xbox.
- April 2026: in its development video, SCS explained that the delay is due to adapting an engine with decades of code to multiple cores, and that it prefers not to give dates until it’s very close to launch so it doesn’t have to push them back.
- October 2026: the latest SCS blog posts (PC 1.62 beta, Poznań Game Arena from October 23 to 25) bring no console news.
The 2027 dates going around are press estimates, not SCS announcements. American Truck Simulator is in the same situation: we sum it up in ATS on Xbox and PS5. If you want to play right now, see how to get the official ETS2 for PC and install mods, something you won’t be able to do the same way on console.
