American Truck Simulator isn’t on sale yet for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and has no release date (checked on October 22, 2026), although it’s been confirmed since August 2025. SCS hasn’t given a price and only says it will announce the date when the launch is close. No version has been announced for PS4, Xbox One or Switch; in the meantime, you can play on PC (Steam), Steam Deck or in the cloud with your Steam copy.
ATS on consoles, platform by platform

| Xbox Series X and Series S | Announced. Listed on the Xbox Store, optimized for Xbox Series X|S. No date. |

Series S and Series X are both included: SCS always says «Xbox Series X|S». What we don’t know yet is whether there will be resolution or performance differences between the two.
When is American Truck Simulator coming to Xbox and PS5?
There’s no date. Here’s what SCS has officially said so far:
- August 2025: announced at the Future Games Show. SCS confirmed that ETS2 and ATS are coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, explained that it couldn’t give a date yet and said it still had «quite a lot of work» ahead.
- October 2025: in its first console development video, the studio confirmed the games wouldn’t release in 2025.
- April 2026: in the second video, SCS explained the reason for the delay. Its engine carries almost 30 years of code that wasn’t designed to split work across several CPU cores, which is essential on consoles. They’d rather rebuild it properly than take shortcuts, and their message was clear: it’ll be ready when it’s ready.
- September 2026: at the Tokyo Game Show, attendees could try Euro Truck Simulator 2 on PS5. For ATS, SCS brought its upcoming PC content to the show (British Columbia, South Dakota and the Road Trip project); there’s no record of its console version being shown.
Several specialized outlets believe it won’t come out before 2027, but that’s a press estimate, not an SCS announcement. When there’s a date, it will be announced on the official SCS blog and on the store pages. If a video or website gives you a specific date without linking to SCS, be skeptical.
What ATS on consoles will be like: confirmed and unconfirmed
Playing with a controller
This is what’s taking the most work. SCS is preparing two new tools it already tested in the experimental beta of version 1.61 on PC: a multifunction display (MFD) to control lights, driving assists, truck settings and navigation without pausing the game, and a quick menu in the form of a top bar. SCS said explicitly that the MFD is designed for keyboard, mouse, wheel and controller, «on PC and on consoles in the future». One detail to note: in the final 1.61 release of ATS, published in September 2026, SCS left out these two features and announced they’ll arrive in a later update, once they’re more polished.
Mods
On PC, mods are one of the big reasons to play ATS (for example, the Mexico map Reforma). On consoles it’s a different story. After the Tokyo Game Show, the press reported that SCS wants to offer mods on consoles through an external partner, curated and reviewed, and maybe not from day one. There’s no official announcement on the SCS blog, so treat it as unconfirmed. What’s certain is that you won’t be able to install mods downloaded from the internet like on PC.
DLC, wheels and multiplayer
On PC, ATS has dozens of state and truck DLCs (you’ll find them sorted in the American Truck Simulator DLC guide). For consoles, there’s been talk of editions bundling several DLCs, also based on reports after the Tokyo Game Show. Which states will be included at launch, which wheels will be supported, whether there will be a Convoy mode and whether your PC progress will carry over to console: SCS hasn’t said yet.
How to play American Truck Simulator now
On PC
ATS is still a PC game, on sale on Steam since 2016, with versions for Windows, macOS and Linux. You don’t need a very powerful computer: check the American Truck Simulator requirements before buying. On PC you get all the DLC, Convoy mode and community mods. We explain how to get it legally in download the official American Truck Simulator.
On Steam Deck
This is the closest thing to playing ATS on a console. The game is rated Verified for Steam Deck on Steam, and since February 2022 SCS has included a configuration adapted to its buttons, on-screen button prompts and basic touch support.
In the cloud with your Steam copy
American Truck Simulator is available on GeForce NOW, NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service, which is officially available in Mexico. You need to own the game on your Steam account; GeForce NOW just runs it on its servers and streams the picture to a modest computer, a phone, a tablet or some smart TVs. Two warnings: it’s not a way to play on Xbox or PlayStation (NVIDIA’s requirements page doesn’t include consoles), and on this kind of service you can’t install manual mods; in practice, only Steam Workshop mods work.
What to do in the meantime
- If you have a PS5 or Xbox Series and no PC, add ATS to your wishlist on your console’s store: that way you’ll find out when it gets a date or price.
- If you already play on PC, there’s no reason to wait for the console version: new content (British Columbia, South Dakota, Road Trip) comes out on PC first.
- If you’re interested in SCS’s other game, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is in the same situation; we sum it up in ETS2 on PS5 and Xbox.
And if you’re waiting for a new game rather than a console version, what’s known is in American Truck Simulator 2.
