American Truck Simulator 2 doesn’t exist and hasn’t been announced as of October 2026. SCS Software hasn’t confirmed any ATS sequel. The current game, American Truck Simulator (2016), keeps growing: in September 2026 it got South Dakota and Road Trip: Ford, a new mode for driving cars, and SCS is working on British Columbia, its first expansion outside the United States. ATS is also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, although still without a date.
Has SCS said anything about an ATS 2?
There’s no announcement, trailer or Steam page for an «American Truck Simulator 2». We also haven’t found any official statement from SCS that specifically talks about an ATS sequel.
The closest thing is what Pavel Šebor, SCS co-founder and director, told PC Gamer in 2019 about Euro Truck Simulator: that they had never committed to making a third installment, that a new game would have to be built from scratch, and that they treat their simulators as long-term platforms that keep improving. ATS follows the same model as ETS2: a single game that’s expanded with free updates and map expansions.
What is happening in ATS (October 2026)
| New content | Status |
|---|---|
| South Dakota (map expansion) | Released on September 24, 2026 |
| Road Trip: Ford (car driving mode) | Released on September 29, 2026 (paid DLC) |
| British Columbia (Canada) | Announced in October 2025, in development |
| Nevada Rework | Project in development to rebuild Nevada |
| PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version | Announced in August 2025, no date |
| American Truck Simulator 2 | Not announced |
Road Trip: ATS isn’t just about trucks anymore
Road Trip is a new mode that lets you explore the ATS map in pickups and sports cars instead of class 8 trucks. According to the official website, it includes the Atlas (places and landmarks to discover, with collectible postcards), quick car delivery jobs, customization and Convoy mode support, so cars and trucks can share the road. The first pack is Road Trip: Ford, and SCS has already announced another one with RAM and Dodge. It’s the kind of feature that would once have been saved for a sequel, and SCS chose to add it to the current game instead.
Canada, the first step outside the United States
British Columbia will be the first official ATS expansion outside the United States. As of October 2026 it has no date. If you’re looking for Mexican roads, there’s no official Mexico map for now: we cover the options in American Truck Simulator in Mexico, and the most popular one is the Reforma mod.
Why isn’t there an ATS 2?
- The map is still incomplete. SCS keeps adding states and now regions of Canada. A sequel would mean starting over or leaving behind the DLCs you’ve already bought. Check out everything released in the ATS DLC guide.
- Technical improvements arrive through updates. In 2026 SCS explained that it’s modernizing its in-house engine, Prism3D, piece by piece, alongside the console versions. Those improvements go to ATS and ETS2, not to a new game.
- Rebuilding the old parts. Instead of launching a new game, SCS rebuilds older areas of the map, as it’s doing now with Nevada.
- Consoles. The studio is focused on bringing ATS and ETS2 to PS5 and Xbox. We explain it in ETS2 on PS5 and Xbox; ATS follows the same open-ended timeline.
Watch out for name confusion
Before ATS, SCS made the 18 Wheels of Steel series, also set in North America. Some websites and videos present those games as «ATS 2» or as prequels, but they’re old, different games. There are also videos titled «American Truck Simulator 2» that are fan concepts or edits made with mods: none of them are official. If SCS ever announces a sequel, it will do so on its official blog and on Steam.
Our recommendation
If you were waiting for ATS 2 to get started, it’s not worth waiting: American Truck Simulator is the current game and SCS keeps expanding it. Check the ATS requirements and, once you have it, learn how to install mods in ATS.
