ETS2 mods by game version

SCS releases big updates (1.56, 1.57… up to 1.61), and each one changes files that mods touch. If a mod's author has declared which versions it's compatible with and yours isn't listed, the game won't let you use it until it's updated. That's why every mod page lists the tested version:

How to install mods in Euro Truck Simulator 2

1. From Steam Workshop: pick your profile, open the Mod Manager and click the Steam Workshop button. When you subscribe, Steam downloads the mod and keeps it updated.
2. Manually: download the .scs or .zip file from the author's page and copy it to DocumentsEuro Truck Simulator 2mod. If the folder doesn't exist, create it: it's called "mod", not "mods".
3. Activate it: in the Mod Manager, double-click the mod and confirm the changes. Mods are activated per profile, so repeat this step for each one.
4. Sort it: the game loads the list of active mods from bottom to top, so the one higher up wins when two touch the same thing. Follow the order each author gives, especially with maps.

Where ETS2 mods are published (and what about ModHub)

ModHub is the official mod portal for Farming Simulator, by GIANTS Software; Euro Truck Simulator 2 has no equivalent. ETS2 mods are released on Steam Workshop (built into the game), the official SCS forum, TruckyMods and each project's website, such as ProMods. Sites with "modhub" in their name for truck mods are not run by SCS: always download from the original source.

Can you use mods in multiplayer or on console?

In Convoy, the official multiplayer, yes: every player needs the same mods the session requires, and if you're missing one that's on Steam Workshop you can subscribe without leaving the game. Sound mods are only heard by you. TruckersMP, the community multiplayer, uses its own mod manager and doesn't accept just any mod; ProMods, for example, runs on specific servers.
