ETS2 Coaches: the Euro Truck Simulator 2 bus DLC

What we know about Coaches, the ETS2 bus DLC: status, confirmed coaches, passengers and stops, plus bus mods you can drive in the meantime.

Updated: 23 Oct 2026

Coaches is the official coach DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2: with it you’ll be able to carry passengers on scheduled routes with multiple stops all over Europe. SCS Software announced it in June 2025 and, as of October 5, 2026, it’s still in development. It doesn’t have a release date yet (on Steam it shows as «To be announced») or a price, but you can already add it to your wishlist. The confirmed coaches are the Scania Touring, the Volvo 9700 DD and the MAN Lion’s Coach. In the meantime, the only way to drive buses in ETS2 is with mods, and we’ll tell you which ones are worth it.

Coaches status: what SCS has confirmed

Here’s what SCS has published on its official blog and on Steam, in order:

Date Official announcement
June 2025 «Project Coaches» is unveiled: several coach models and a network of bus stations across the whole map. It’s being developed by a separate team so it doesn’t slow down the rest of the game.
September 2025 First coach: the Scania Touring, with up to 50 seats depending on the configuration.
January 2026 Interview with the producer: passengers are the heart of the DLC.
February 2026 The double-decker Volvo 9700 DD: up to 96 seats, 6×2 configuration, 14.3 m long and 4 m high.
April 2026 New and revamped bus stations on the maps, including older DLCs like Italia, Road to the Black Sea and Beyond the Baltic Sea.
July 2026 First gameplay video, with the MAN Lion’s Coach on a route between Duisburg and Rotterdam, plus new vehicle features.
August 2026 Buying coaches, garages and scheduled jobs.
September 2026 «Mode Switch» to swap between truck and coach. The 1.61 update (September 17) gets the map ready: a new station in Nuremberg, revamped stations in Karlstad, Aarhus and Thessaloniki, and better bus stops.

In every post, SCS stresses that what it shows is a work in progress and may change. It hasn’t given a release date or window, so be wary of any website or video that says otherwise.

How it will play: passengers, stops and routes

A new mode: Coach Mode

The game will be split into modes: the classic truck mode and the new coach mode. Each one has its own progression, but money and the discovered map are shared. You can switch modes whenever you’re not driving, and you can only have one active job at a time. Just like trucks, coaches will have mandatory rest breaks.

Scheduled jobs with multiple stops

In the contracts menu you’ll see the passenger services available in nearby cities. You pick a route, drive to the bus station, confirm the line and the game skips ahead to departure time so passengers can board. Many routes will have several stops. The harder ones pay more and give more XP.

Passenger satisfaction

This is what sets Coaches apart from driving a truck. According to the project’s producer, you’ll have to balance arriving on time with not going too fast, and hard braking and sharp turns will cost you. You can see the passengers inside the coach and hear them too.

Your own coach

  • You buy them at the online dealership and keep them in your garage without taking up truck slots. You can get financing.
  • You can configure the chassis, engine, gearbox, upholstery color and curtains, among other things. Some parts unlock as you level up.
  • With your own coach you’ll be able to drive around the map freely when off duty and visit viewpoints.
  • Dedicated equipment: destination sign (removable), separate sun visors for each side, a dashboard reversing camera, and ambient and ceiling interior lighting.

What it won’t have, according to SCS: running a bus company or hiring drivers. The game stays focused on trucks.

What we still don’t know

  • Release date and price.
  • Whether it will come to the console versions of ETS2 (our guide to ETS2 on PS5 and Xbox covers what’s known about those versions).
  • Whether modded buses will work with passengers in the new mode.
  • Whether more manufacturers will be added. The producer mentioned working with other coach brands after launch, but nothing is confirmed.

How to drive buses in ETS2 today: mods

Until Coaches comes out, you can drive coaches with mods. Be clear on how they work: you buy the bus at the dealership as if it were a truck and drive it within the normal job system. There are no passengers, stops or schedules. Everything in our ETS2 bus category has been reviewed and links to its author’s official page:

Mod Price Notes
Niccoló New Isidro 3 Free Argentine double-decker coach by ARBus Mods, on a Mercedes-Benz or Scania chassis. Compatible with 1.61.
Metalsur Starbus 3 405 Free Double-decker on a Scania K chassis, from the same team. Compatible with 1.61.
MAN Lion’s Coach 2023 Paid A coach SCS has also confirmed for Coaches; this is the OyuncuyusBis Mods version.
Setra S 517 HDH TopClass Paid Luxury coach with animated destination signs.
Mercedes-Benz Tourismo 16 RHD Paid With a digital tachograph and rear camera.
Irizar i8 Integral Paid The Spanish coach, with 10 company liveries.

The four from OyuncuyusBis have older free versions that only go up to 1.56; for 1.61 you need the paid edition from the author’s website. If you just want to see more buses on the road, Jazzycat’s Bus Traffic Pack adds them to AI traffic.

A heads-up: many «bus mods» floating around the internet are conversions from other games (mostly OMSI or Proton Bus) or reuploads made without the author’s permission. We don’t list them. To install any of the ones above, follow the guide to installing mods in ETS2.

Frequently asked questions

When does ETS2 Coaches come out?

There’s no date. As of October 5, 2026, the Steam page says «To be announced» and SCS hasn’t given any release window.

Will Coaches be free?

Nobody knows yet. It’s listed on Steam as a standalone DLC, but SCS hasn’t said whether it will be paid or how much it will cost.

Can you carry passengers in ETS2 right now?

Not officially. Bus mods let you drive the vehicle, but it works like a truck, with no passengers or stops.

Will I need map DLCs to use Coaches?

SCS hasn’t said any are required. It has explained that it added stations to the DLC maps so you can do coach jobs even if you own a DLC that isn’t connected to the rest of the road network.

Which coaches come with Coaches?

So far three officially licensed ones are confirmed: the Scania Touring, the Volvo 9700 DD (double-decker) and the MAN Lion’s Coach.
