ETS2 1.62: what’s new, release date and mod support

ETS2 1.62 has been in open beta since October 22, 2026: official changes, how to join public_beta, how to go back to 1.61 and what happens to your mods.

Updated: 23 Oct 2026

Updated October 23, 2026: Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.62 has been in open beta on Steam since October 22, 2026 (public_beta branch); the stable version is still 1.61 and SCS Software hasn’t given a date for the final 1.62. It brings new garages across the whole map, three special editions of the DAF XG+, the improved material system in the Iveco S-Way interior, Goodyear’s new branding and 11 new songs on Escape radio. If you play with mods, the safe move is to wait: many mods break during a beta, and ProMods is still on 2.84, built for 1.61.

Will your mods survive 1.62? Load your log here and we’ll tell you which ones already confirm support for the new version and which don’t yet. While the beta lasts, you’ll see your mods checked against the latest stable version.

How to join the 1.62 open beta

The update is free for anyone who owns the game on Steam. These are the steps SCS gives:

  1. Open Steam and go to your Library.
  2. Right-click Euro Truck Simulator 2 and choose Properties.
  3. Open the Game Versions & Betas tab.
  4. Under Beta Participation, select public_beta.
  5. Wait for Steam to download the update. If the branch doesn’t show up with the right name, restart Steam.

Bugs are reported in the beta section of the official SCS forum. If you play with mods, create a new, clean profile to test the beta: that way you don’t put your main save at risk.

How to go back to 1.61

  1. First of all, back up the Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles folder (and steam_profiles if you use Steam Cloud).
  2. In Steam, right-click Euro Truck Simulator 2, then Properties, Game Versions & Betas.
  3. Under Beta Participation, choose the no-beta option («None»).
  4. Steam downloads the stable 1.61. If a profile won’t load, restore the backup you made before joining the beta.

A profile saved on 1.62 may not load properly when you go back to 1.61, especially if you’ve used new content. SCS doesn’t cover this in the announcement, so your backup is your safety net. When 1.62 goes stable, SCS usually keeps branches with previous versions on Steam for anyone who needs them; TruckersMP, for example, explains how to use one of them.

Which mods work on ETS2 1.62

SCS doesn’t provide a list: it points to its modding wiki for the technical changes. Here’s what you can expect, based on how the game works:

  • Simple mods (paint jobs, sounds, UI or physics tweaks) usually keep working, even if the Mod Manager flags them as made for an older version.
  • Modded trucks and trailers can throw errors if they rely on files that change; the Iveco S-Way and the DAF XG+ are the most exposed because of this version’s changes.
  • Large maps almost always wait for the stable version. The new garages touch the entire map, and that can clash with maps that modify cities.
  • ProMods: 2.84 is designed and tested for 1.61. As of October 23, 2026 there’s no version for 1.62; if you use it, stay on 1.61. We explain it in ProMods vs official DLC.
  • A concrete example: the author of Panamerica Map warns that it may break on 1.62, even though its file declares compatibility up to 1.65.
  • TruckersMP only works with the specific version listed on its download page, which isn’t the beta; 1.62 is no good for playing there.
  • Convoy, the official multiplayer: all players need the same game version and the same mods.

In the meantime, the reference is still our list of mods compatible with ETS2 1.61. Once 1.62 is stable, check each mod’s page before updating and load your mods in the right order (load order).

When is the stable 1.62 coming out?

SCS hasn’t given a date. It will announce it on its blog, and Steam will update the game automatically for anyone not on the beta. Until then, 1.61 is the version Steam installs by default.

Is it worth joining the beta?

Yes, if you play without mods or with very few and you want to see the new garages and DAFs before everyone else. No, if your playthrough depends on ProMods, large maps or TruckersMP: there you lose more than you gain.

Frequently asked questions

When does ETS2 1.62 come out?

The open beta came out on October 22, 2026. The stable version has no date yet: SCS will announce it on its blog.

Is 1.62 free?

Yes. It’s a free update for anyone who owns Euro Truck Simulator 2. The Goodyear change affects the paint jobs in the Goodyear Tyres Pack DLC, which is sold separately.

Will I lose my save if I join the beta?

You shouldn’t, but a profile saved on 1.62 can cause problems when you go back to 1.61. Back up the profiles folder before joining, or test the beta with a new profile.

Does ProMods work on 1.62?

Not as of October 23, 2026. ProMods 2.84 is for 1.61. If you use it, stay on the stable version until a compatible one comes out.

How do I go back to 1.61?

In Steam, open the game’s Properties, go to Game Versions & Betas and choose the no-beta option. Steam will download the stable 1.61.
