ProMods vs official ETS2 DLC: what you need and when

ProMods or the official ETS2 DLC: which expansions ProMods 2.84 needs, size, compatibility with 1.61 and the 1.62 beta, and when it's worth it for you.

Updated: 23 Oct 2026

ProMods doesn’t replace the official Euro Truck Simulator 2 DLC: it needs all of them. As of October 23, 2026, ProMods Europe 2.84, made for ETS2 1.61, requires all 10 SCS map expansions, from Going East! to Nordic Horizons, according to its official store. It’s worth it when you already own the full official map and want more roads, more regions and more detail for free; if you’re just starting out, buy the DLC first (in Spain, Iberia is the most useful one) and play the stable version without mods. And if you’re on the 1.62 beta, wait: there’s no ProMods for that version yet.

Which DLC ProMods requires

The official ProMods Europe 2.84 download page lists all ten map DLC as required. We’ve added the storage space Steam lists for each one:

DLC Release Space listed on Steam Required by ProMods 2.84?
Going East! Sep 19, 2013 50 MB Yes
Scandinavia May 14, 2015 200 MB Yes
Vive la France! Dec 5, 2016 120 MB Yes
Italia Dec 5, 2017 130 MB Yes
Beyond the Baltic Sea Nov 29, 2018 Not listed Yes
Road to the Black Sea Dec 5, 2019 Not listed Yes
Iberia Apr 8, 2021 550 MB Yes
West Balkans Oct 19, 2023 12 GB Yes
Greece Dec 4, 2024 12 GB Yes
Nordic Horizons Nov 27, 2025 Repeats the base game’s 25 GB Yes

Special Transport isn’t required, but according to the official tutorial it’s compatible. Add-ons that depend on ProMods, such as Iberia ProMods Rework, inherit these requirements. If you’re missing any expansion, ProMods won’t load properly: there’s no «partial mode». To figure out which one to buy first, check our ETS2 DLC guide.

What ProMods adds to the official map

ProMods expands and rebuilds the European map with regions, cities and roads that SCS doesn’t have or covers in a more condensed way, and it serves as the base for other maps by the same team: ProMods Middle East (Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia), ProMods Maghreb (Morocco and Tunisia, by ferry from Algeciras; it also works without ProMods Europe) and ProMods The Great Steppe (Central Asia). What it doesn’t add is the stuff exclusive to SCS: events, viewpoints, achievements tied to each DLC and immediate support with every update.

Size and disk space

ProMods doesn’t publish how much space it takes up. It’s downloaded in several parts of a .7z archive; when you extract just the first one, the program joins the rest and leaves eight .scs packages (assets, def, dlcsupport, map, media and model1 to model3), as we explain in how to install ProMods. While extracting, you need room for both the archive and its contents at the same time. With the free download you can only grab one file every five minutes, so installation takes a while.

Compatibility: game version and other maps

  • Version. Each ProMods version works with one specific ETS2 version: 2.84 is for 1.61 and doesn’t work with earlier versions. Mixing versions is the most common cause of loading errors.
  • 1.62 beta. As of October 23, 2026 there’s no ProMods for 1.62. If you use ProMods, stay on 1.61 until the compatible version is released.
  • Other maps. Only combine maps that ProMods or their authors declare compatible, with the connection patches they specify. Other maps go at the bottom of the active mod list.
  • Removing ProMods. The official FAQ recommends selling any garages and properties you have in ProMods areas before uninstalling it, and backing up your profile before testing.

When ProMods is worth it

  • You already own all 10 map expansions or you’re going to buy them anyway.
  • You’ve driven the official map and want new regions without paying more.
  • You play on the stable version and don’t mind waiting for each ProMods update.
  • You’re interested in the Middle East, the Maghreb or Central Asia with the ProMods add-ons.

When to stick with just the official DLC

  • You’re just starting out and don’t have all the expansions yet.
  • You always want to play the latest version, open betas included.
  • You care about SCS achievements, events and viewpoints.
  • You’d rather not deal with manual downloads or load order.

Frequently asked questions

Is ProMods free?

Yes. ProMods Europe is a free download on promods.net with a free forum account. Its store also sells an optional paid fast download, which doesn’t add any content. What does cost money is the 10 official DLC it requires.

Can you use ProMods without DLC?

No. ProMods Europe 2.84 needs all ten official map expansions. Without them, the map won’t load correctly.

Does ProMods work on the 1.62 beta?

Not as of October 23, 2026: 2.84 is designed and tested for 1.61. If you want to try the beta, do it with a profile without ProMods. More details in ETS2 1.62.

ProMods or West Balkans and Greece: which should I buy first?

If your goal is ProMods, there’s no choice: you need West Balkans and Greece anyway. If you don’t plan to use ProMods, buy the DLC for the regions you’re most interested in first.

Can I combine ProMods with RusMap or other maps?

Only if ProMods or the other map’s author declares them compatible and you use the patch they specify. RusMap, for example, works without ProMods; check its mod page before combining them.
