What this mod does
ProMods The Great Steppe (TGS) is the ProMods team’s map dedicated to the steppes of Central Asia. Modder 09_KZ started it in 2017, and ProMods adopted it and released it as 1.0.0 in February 2023. It has grown with every version since.
What it adds
- Western Kazakhstan, with cities such as Oral (Uralsk), Aktobe, Atyrau and Aktau, and rebuilt towns like Kandyagash, Temir and Shubarkuduk.
- Stretches of Russia along the border, such as Ershov.
- Turkmenistan since 1.6.0: you enter through the Temir-Baba border crossing and reach Garabogaz, on the shore of the Caspian.
- Local companies, signs, traffic vehicles and license plates, with lots of long hauls on straight, empty roads.
What’s new in 1.7.0
It’s a minor update to bring the map to ETS2 1.61: it fixes critical bugs from 1.6.2 and adds a new location in Turkmenistan, Kiyanli. It doesn’t work on earlier game versions.
Who it’s for
For anyone who has already driven across Europe and wants long routes, open landscapes and a calmer driving pace. If you play with ProMods Europe, TGS must have lower priority than the main ProMods package. Like the team’s other maps, it’s a free download from their website with a registered account.

Requirements
- Euro Truck Simulator 2 version 1.61 (1.7.0 doesn't work on earlier versions)
- Map DLCs: promods.net links 1.7.0 to Going East!, Scandinavia, Vive la France !, Italia, Beyond the Baltic Sea, Road to the Black Sea, Iberia and Greece; check there which ones are required before installing
- Works on its own or alongside ProMods Europe
- A registered promods.net account to download
How to install it
- Log in or sign up at promods.net.
- In the ETS2 downloads section, download The Great Steppe 1.7.0.
- Copy the .scs files to Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2/mod.
- In the Mod Manager, activate The Great Steppe files.
- If you use ProMods Europe, place them below (lower priority than) the main ProMods package.
- Load your profile: your truck returns to your main garage and the save stays playable.
Common problems
Does it work on ETS2 1.60?
No. 1.7.0 is made for 1.61 and ProMods warns that it doesn't work on earlier versions.
Is it connected to the rest of Europe?
At launch there was no physical connection to ProMods Europe and you got there via fast travel. Check promods.net for how it connects in the current version.
Is it paid?
The download from promods.net is free with registration; the store sells an optional direct download for $1.20.
Will I lose my save when I install it?
No. ProMods says profiles update automatically and your truck is moved to your main garage.
