How to install ProMods in Euro Truck Simulator 2

Install ProMods in ETS2 from promods.net: required map DLC, every .scs package, the right load order, game version and compatible add-ons.

Updated: 23 Oct 2026

ProMods is the best-known map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2: it expands and reworks a large part of Europe and adds new regions. It’s free, but you have to follow its instructions to the letter. Most ProMods problems come from downloading it from an unofficial site, missing the required DLC, or using the wrong load order. You’ll find the mod page at ProMods for ETS2.

Download only from promods.net

ProMods is distributed exclusively through its official website, promods.net. Any other site offering it is reuploading the files without permission, often with old or modified versions. To access the download area you need a free account on the ProMods forum. The standard download is free but slow: it only lets you grab one file every five minutes, and you should disable your ad blocker. Supporters of the project download without those limits. Holymod doesn’t host any files: we always send you to the official source.

Requirements before installing

Required map DLC

ProMods builds on SCS Software’s official map expansions and won’t work if any of them is missing. According to the official tutorial for version 2.80, you need ten: Going East!, Scandinavia, Vive la France!, Italia, Beyond the Baltic Sea, Road to the Black Sea, Iberia, West Balkans, Greece and Nordic Horizons. The Special Transport, Krone Trailer Pack and Feldbinder Trailer Pack DLC are optional but compatible. The list may grow with each version, so check it on promods.net before downloading.

Game version

Each ProMods version works with one specific ETS2 version. If the game updates before ProMods does, the map stops loading until the update comes out. In that case you can wait, or roll back to the previous game version from the Betas tab in the game’s Steam properties, if SCS offers it. Always check the compatibility listed on promods.net before updating.

Which files to download

The free method has two parts. First you generate your custom definition file (def): on the website you choose the cabin interior volume, damage level, vegetation distance and colors, and you tick two options if they apply to you: map zoom compatibility (only if you use other maps) and support for the Special Transport DLC. Then you download the map, split into several parts of a .7z archive, plus a checker file with the TestFiles.exe tool, which verifies that nothing is corrupted. When you extract it with 7-Zip you get that version’s packages: assets, def, dlcsupport, map, media and three model packages (model1 to model3), with the version number in the name.

Step-by-step installation

  1. Log in to promods.net with your forum account and go to the ProMods Europe download.
  2. Generate and download your def file with the settings you prefer.
  3. Download all the map parts and the checker file into the same folder as the def.
  4. Run TestFiles.exe: it should say all files are fine. If any of them fails, download it again.
  5. Open the first part of the .7z with 7-Zip and extract the packages. Don’t unpack the .scs files.
  6. Copy all the ProMods packages into Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\mod and delete the ones from older versions.
  7. Launch the game, pick your profile and open the Mod Manager.
  8. Enable all the ProMods packages. The official tutorial recommends keeping the definition package at the very top of the ProMods files.
  9. Confirm the changes and load the profile.

Tip: create a new profile for your first ProMods playthrough, or at least back up your profile before loading it with the map.

Load order with other mods and add-ons

In the ETS2 Mod Manager, mods higher up in the active list take priority. ProMods publishes its own load order guides for combining it with other compatible maps, and you need to follow them exactly:

  • Official ProMods add-ons (for example, the Middle East expansion): they have their own packages and requirements. Check on promods.net where they go relative to base ProMods.
  • Third-party add-ons designed for ProMods, such as Iberia ProMods Rework: read on the author’s page which ProMods version they require and where to place them. They usually go above ProMods, since they modify areas of its map.
  • Other maps: only those that ProMods or their authors declare compatible, with whatever connection patches they specify.
  • Traffic, graphics or sound mods: check whether the author mentions ProMods compatibility and where to place them.

Enable add-ons one at a time. If the game crashes, you’ll know which one caused it.

Multiplayer: Convoy and TruckersMP

In Convoy, the official ETS2 multiplayer, every player must have the same map mods, in the same version and in the correct order. If the host uses ProMods with add-ons, you need exactly the same ones.

TruckersMP is a third-party multiplayer project with its own rules and servers. It usually offers ProMods servers, but it doesn’t allow just any combination of mods, and its compatibility with each ProMods version is up to them. Check their website before connecting.

Common problems

  • The game crashes while loading: a DLC is missing, a package is missing, or there’s a package from another version.
  • ProMods doesn’t show up in the Mod Manager: the files aren’t in the mod folder or are still compressed.
  • Gaps or cut-off roads: wrong load order or an outdated add-on.

In Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\game.log.txt you’ll see which file is causing the error. For ProMods-specific issues, the support forum on promods.net is the right place. More maps in the Euro Truck Simulator 2 section.
