Best ETS2 mods: top 15 for version 1.61 (2026)

The best ETS2 mods: maps like ProMods, weather, sound, traffic, physics and trucks. With price, required DLC and compatibility with 1.61.

Updated: 23 Oct 2026

The best Euro Truck Simulator 2 mods right now are ProMods to expand the map of Europe, Sound Fixes Pack and Realistic Brutal Graphics And Weather for atmosphere, Real Traffic Density for traffic and Realistic Truck Physics for driving. Those five alone change the game dramatically; from there, add regional maps and trucks to suit how you play.

We picked the 15 on this list from the mod pages published on Holymod using three criteria: they’re downloaded from an official source (Steam Workshop, the SCS forum or the author’s own website), they’re updated for the current game version, 1.61, or we clearly flag it when they aren’t, and they’re well received wherever the source publishes ratings. We also tell you which ones require DLC and which have paid parts.

Maps

ProMods Europe

It’s the biggest map expansion for ETS2 and the foundation for many other mods on this list, such as Portugal Rebuild and Iberia ProMods Rework. The download is free, although there are paid options for faster downloads. Keep in mind that it requires several official map DLCs and that each ProMods version is tied to a specific game version, so after every patch you’ll have to wait for its update.

Iberia ProMods Rework

An add-on for ProMods that rebuilds Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar with cities, roads and junctions that are truer to life, bringing the ProMods peninsula up to the level of the Iberia DLC. It’s free and published by the author. The catch: it requires every map DLC, and its latest version is for ETS2 1.60 with ProMods 2.83; no version for 1.61 has been announced yet.

Portugal Rebuild

Another ProMods add-on, focused on Portugal: new cities, roads, logistics areas and real companies and gas stations. Unlike the previous one, it’s already updated to ETS2 1.61. It needs ProMods and the Iberia DLC, and it’s still in the 0.x stage, so it may have the occasional bug.

RusMap

Adds the European part of Russia and Belarus, with more than 50 Russian and 18 Belarusian cities, and works without ProMods. It has been in development for over ten years, gets updated with every patch and averages 4 out of 5 on ModLand. In exchange, it requires nine map DLCs (including Going East!, Scandinavia, Iberia, West Balkans and Nordic Horizons) and the download is around 1.4 GB.

Paris Rebuild

Rebuilds Paris on the base map: it opens roads that were closed and adds the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, three new companies and RATP buses. It’s tiny (about 18 MB) and updated to 1.61. You need the Vive la France ! DLC, it isn’t compatible with ProMods 2.71 or later, and the free download goes through an ad-supported file host.

Peru Roads

If you feel like leaving Europe, this standalone map takes the game to the roads of Peru, with cities like Nazca, Ica, Jauja and Chancay. It’s free, updated to 1.61 and gets frequent updates. It’s still at version 0.8, so the territory is limited for now; it also requires six map DLCs and a separate profile, because it isn’t compatible with your European save.

Graphics, weather and sound

Realistic Brutal Graphics And Weather

A complete overhaul of weather and lighting: rain with more than 10 intensities, storms with their own lightning and thunder, fog, new skies and tweaked HDR. It’s free, Convoy-compatible, and its author released the 1.61 version a few days after the patch. Heads up: it also changes truck physics, headlights and traffic light timings, so it may conflict with other graphics, weather or physics mods.

Snowy Moon (LoG.Pro and Lighting Improvements)

Plugins that add temporal anti-aliasing (TAA and DLAA) and motion blur, something the game doesn’t offer out of the box. The free option, LoG.Pro, already works on 1.61; the lighting upgrades in Lighting Improvements v2 are paid. It forces you to play in DirectX 11, and LoG.Pro is still in alpha.

Sound Fixes Pack

Adds and fixes hundreds of sounds: rain, tires depending on the road surface, traffic, railroad crossings, gas stations and wind, without touching your truck’s own sound. It’s free, updated very often and works in Convoy. It’s over 300 MB and needs high priority in the Mod Manager; if you put it below other mods, some of its changes won’t apply.

Traffic and physics

Real Traffic Density

Adjusts the amount and type of traffic by time of day and road type based on real traffic data, so highways fill up at rush hour and empty out late at night. It’s very lightweight and compatible with ProMods and with traffic packs like Jazzycat’s. It requires changing your launch options and keeping g_traffic at 1, and at rush hour it can be heavy on modest PCs.

AI Traffic Pack by Jazzycat

Adds 473 new cars to traffic, trailers for passenger cars, police from 11 countries and about 600 van skins, and works with any map. It’s the natural companion to Real Traffic Density. It’s a very large file that lengthens loading times, it may conflict with other traffic mods and its rating on ModLand is average (3 out of 5).

Realistic Truck Physics

Tweaks chassis suspension, cab movement, trailer physics and the interior camera to make driving feel more realistic. It’s a small, free file, compatible with 1.61 and with Convoy. It requires setting several game options to 100%, it’s best not combined with other physics mods, and support for modded trucks is only in the paid Ultimate Pack.

Trucks

Volvo FH4 Reworked

Rebuilds the game’s fourth-generation Volvo FH with new bumpers, side skirts, roof bars, engines and transmissions. It’s already updated for 1.61 and doesn’t require DLC. It replaces the original FH4, so it may conflict with other mods for that truck, and its author forbids redistribution: download it only from the official page.

View mod page

Renault Magnum Megamod

Four generations of the Renault Magnum (AE, Integral, E-tech and DXi Euro 4/5) in a single free Steam Workshop package, updated for 1.61 with no required DLC. It’s a download of over 1 GB, and the page doesn’t say whether it replaces the game’s original Magnum.

Scania PGR-Series 2004-2018

Recreates the Scania P, G and R series built between 2004 and 2018, with their 2009 and 2013 facelifts, and has a huge ecosystem of skins and addons behind it. It’s free and needs no DLC. Two warnings: it’s over 6 GB, and its latest official version lists compatibility up to 1.60, not 1.61.

If you’re looking for more trucks or maps, you’ll find the rest in the ETS2 trucks and maps sections. There are very well-known mods, such as the DAF XF 105 by vad&k and the MAN TGX E6 by Gloover, that we left off this list because their latest versions are for 1.58 and 1.59.

What’s new for 1.61 (October 2026)

Since 1.61 came out, we’ve added these mods to the catalog, all with compatibility checked against the author’s official source:

You’ll find every mod that works on the current version in mods compatible with ETS2 1.61.

How to install them

Steam Workshop mods install when you subscribe from their page; the rest are downloaded as a .scm or .zip file and copied to the game’s mod folder, inside Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2. Then you activate them in your profile’s Mod Manager and sort them: whatever is on top has priority. Follow the order each author specifies (for example, Sound Fixes Pack at the top and ProMods add-ons according to their instructions). We walk you through it step by step in the guide to installing mods in ETS2, and ProMods has its own ProMods installation guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which ETS2 mods are must-haves?

If you’re only going to install a few, start with Sound Fixes Pack, Real Traffic Density and Realistic Truck Physics: they’re lightweight, free and don’t require DLC. If you own the map DLCs, ProMods is the next step.

Do I need DLC to use these mods?

The sound, traffic, physics and truck mods on this list don’t require DLC. The maps do: ProMods and its add-ons require several official map DLCs, RusMap nine, Peru Roads six and Paris Rebuild the Vive la France ! DLC. Check each one’s mod page before downloading.

Can I use them in multiplayer?

In Convoy, the official multiplayer, every player needs the same mods; Sound Fixes Pack, Realistic Brutal Graphics And Weather and Realistic Truck Physics state Convoy compatibility. TruckersMP has its own rules on mods, so check them before you connect.

What do I do with mods that only go up to 1.60?

They may work on 1.61, but it isn’t guaranteed: test them on a separate profile or wait for the author’s update. On this list we flag it for Iberia ProMods Rework and Scania PGR-Series.

Do these mods work in American Truck Simulator?

No. ETS2 and ATS use different mods even though they share an engine. If you play ATS, check out the American Truck Simulator mods.
