American Truck Simulator multiplayer: yes, as of October 23, 2026 the game has an official mode, Convoy, included at no extra cost since version 1.41. It allows private sessions of up to 8 players, supports mods (up to 70 per session) and, since December 2022, dedicated servers. The other option is TruckersMP, a free community mod with public servers, but its download page says it works with ATS 1.57.2.3s and doesn’t support the latest game version (currently 1.61), so to use it you have to downgrade.

Convoy: how to play with friends
Convoy works with sessions that one player (the host) creates and the others join. Traffic, time and weather are synced, and everyone can take the same job to travel together.
- Everyone must have the same game version, the most recent one.
- Everyone must be Steam friends and online.
- The host opens Convoy from the main menu and creates the session. They can set a password and decide whether speed limits are enforced (they’re on by default).
- The others look for the session in the session browser. You only see sessions in your region: if someone is in another country, they can search for the session by its exact name.
- When you’re done, each player chooses whether to keep the save progress or discard it.
If the host leaves, the session closes for everyone. That’s what dedicated servers are for.
Dedicated servers
SCS released the Convoy dedicated server in December 2022. It keeps the session open even when nobody is connected, can be set up on your own machine or a rented one, and doesn’t require owning the game or the DLCs. It’s installed with SteamCMD using the ID 2239530 (ETS2 has a different one).
Mods in Convoy
Convoy has supported mods since version 1.42, with a maximum of 70 per session. The session browser shows which mods each server requires. You can subscribe to Steam Workshop ones from inside the game; the rest you have to download yourself from the author’s page, in the same version as the server. Sound mods are only heard by whoever has them installed, and trucks, trailers and cargo need traffic models so other players can see them properly.
Some authors state that their mod works in Convoy, such as Sound Fixes Pack, Realistic Rain or the ATS Company Ford F-150 Skin Pack. SCS doesn’t publish a list of allowed mods. Some communities run servers with modded maps, like the MundoATS server for Mapkalo, the map of Colombia.
Do you need the DLCs?
Not to join. But if you don’t own a map DLC, you won’t be able to see or drive in that area. If the group wants to drive a specific state, everyone should own it.
TruckersMP: the community multiplayer
TruckersMP is an independent mod for ETS2 and ATS with public servers and its own rules. To get started, you register at truckersmp.com, link your Steam account and install its launcher, which keeps the mod up to date.
The key thing is the version. The launcher only works with the ATS version TruckersMP supports, and its knowledge base explains how to roll back to an older version: in Steam, go to the game’s Properties, the Game Versions & Betas tab, pick that version’s branch (currently temporary_1_57) and turn off automatic updates. Use a profile without mods: the rules ban cheats and the console, and local-only items (sounds or accessories from the /home folder) trigger an automatic kick.
Convoy or TruckersMP?
- Convoy if you’re going to play with your friends, with your mods and on the current game version.
- TruckersMP if you want roads full of real truckers or to join a virtual trucking company, and you don’t mind downgrading or playing without mods.
There’s no multiplayer on consoles or phones, because ATS only exists on PC (Windows, macOS and Linux).

Frequently asked questions
Does American Truck Simulator have official multiplayer?
Yes. It’s called Convoy, it’s been included since version 1.41 and it allows up to 8 players per session.
How many players fit in Convoy?
Up to 8 per session, according to SCS’s official FAQ. The company said it might raise the limit later on.
Can you use mods in ATS multiplayer?
In Convoy, yes, up to 70 per session, and all players must have the mods the server requires. In TruckersMP, no: you only play with its synced content.
Why won’t TruckersMP let me in?
It’s almost always the version. If your ATS is on 1.61 and TruckersMP supports an older one, the launcher won’t start. Switch to the beta branch for the version the error message names.
Do I need to buy every DLC to play with friends?
No. You can join without DLC, but you won’t see the map areas you don’t own.
