What this mod does

Realistic Rain is one of the most veteran weather mods for American Truck Simulator. It doesn’t change the lighting or the sky: it focuses on making rain look and sound better, both from the cab and from outside the truck.

What it changes in the game

  • Raindrops on the windshield and side windows with higher-resolution textures.
  • More believable exterior rain particles.
  • Wheel spray on wet asphalt, on both your truck and traffic.
  • Dynamic rain sound that rises or falls with the intensity of the downpour.
  • About 20 different thunderclaps, with a delay of 1 to 5 seconds after the lightning, just like in real life.

Who it’s for

For anyone who plays with the default weather or a light weather mod and wants storms to carry more weight without changing the game’s overall look. It works with all trucks, map DLC and mod maps. The author says it’s also compatible with Juninho944’s Weather Mod.

Versions and compatibility

The author declares version 5.2.1 compatible with ATS 1.54 and 1.61.x. It needs DirectX 11 and is incompatible with Cold Rain, by the same author, because both modify the same files. With Grimes’s autumn seasons, thunder is disabled.

Common problems

Does it work in Convoy?

Yes, the author says it's compatible with Convoy mode.

Can I use it with Cold Rain?

No. Both mods touch the same game elements; use only one of them.

I can't hear thunder. What's wrong?

If you use Grimes's autumn seasons, those mods disable thunder. Also check that Realistic Rain sits above your weather mods.

On some Freightliners I don't see drops on the side windows

The author attributes this to an issue in the game itself, not the mod.
