Autobahn for Assetto Corsa

What this mod does

Autobahn is a made-up stretch of German autobahn, «somewhere in Germany», about 30 km long: 15 km in each direction with two lanes per carriageway. It was created by PeterBitt and, despite being an early version, it has nearly 170,000 downloads.

What makes it special

• The AI drives in the right lane and only passes on the left, as German traffic rules require; the author admits it sometimes creates odd situations, but overall it works.
• AI cars pull into the pits to refuel, so you can run full-length races.
• It’s very handy for comparing acceleration, top speed and fuel consumption between cars.

Version 0.3

It added new terrain with basic textures, improved the pit lane with its entry and exit, and optimized performance. The track map is by Deswribilator.

Keep in mind

The author himself presents it as a work in progress: the base is almost done, but many objects and details were still missing, and it hasn’t been updated since November 2016. Reviewers enjoy it for relaxed cruising, high-speed runs and VR, and ask for more length, a three-lane version and more scenery. One user mentions a hole next to the guardrails and problems with certain Custom Shaders Patch versions. The author asks that it not be reuploaded to other sites.

Requirements

• Assetto Corsa for PC
• About 40 MB of free space
• Free OverTake.gg account to download

How to install it

1. Go to the Autobahn page on OverTake.gg and log in.
2. Download version 0.3 (about 38 MB).
3. Drag the file onto the Content Manager window and click Install, or copy the track folder into assettocorsa/content/tracks.
4. Pick a fast car and head out in practice to test its top speed.
5. For a race, add AI: it will keep to the right lane and pit to refuel.
