What this mod does
Real Penalty is a race control system for Assetto Corsa online sessions created by Davide Bolognesi. It has two parts: a plugin that the server admin installs and a client app that each driver installs. Many leagues and endurance servers use it to enforce the rules automatically, with no need for stewards reviewing every lap.
What it does during a race
- It monitors track limits and warns drivers when they exceed them; rack up enough warnings and a penalty follows.
- It hands out Drive Through penalties (driving through the pit lane at the speed limiter) and Stop and Go penalties (stopping in the pit lane and waiting for the countdown).
- It can disqualify anyone who ignores penalties or crosses safety lines, such as the pit exit line.
- It controls driver swap times and reconnections in endurance races: you have to wait for the release signal before leaving the pit box.
Do I need it?
If you only race offline, no. If you join a server or league that uses Real Penalty, yes: the client app is mandatory, and if the server doesn’t detect it, it kicks you a few seconds after you connect. In races with a day-night cycle it’s also a good idea to have Custom Shaders Patch with Weather FX enabled so the time of day stays in sync.
Versions and price
The client app is downloaded from the author’s Patreon and it’s the only thing a driver needs. The server plugin is distributed to his Patreon supporters, and that’s what server organizers pay for.

Requirements
- Assetto Corsa for PC
- Content Manager with Python apps enabled
- Custom Shaders Patch with Weather FX if the server uses a day-night cycle
- Only has an effect on servers that have the Real Penalty plugin installed
How to install it
- Go to Davide Bolognesi's Patreon and open the post for the Real Penalty client app.
- Download the client app's .zip file.
- Drag the .zip into the Content Manager window and confirm the installation.
- In Content Manager, go to Settings > Assetto Corsa > Python apps and make sure Python apps are enabled.
- Tick Real Penalty in the app list so it loads when you go on track.
- Connect to the server and check that the Real Penalty window appears on screen before leaving the pits.
Common problems
I get kicked from the server as soon as I join
The server requires the Real Penalty client app. Install it, enable Python apps in Content Manager and tick Real Penalty in the list.
Do I have to pay to race on a server with Real Penalty?
No. As a driver you only need the client app. The Patreon subscription is for whoever runs the server.
Does it work for offline play against the AI?
No. It works together with the server plugin, so it only acts in online sessions.
The server time doesn't match mine
For day-night races, enable Custom Shaders Patch with Weather FX.
