Short answer: American Truck Simulator has no official infinite money cheat and no console command that adds dollars. What SCS Software does give you is a developer console (to change the time, the weather, the game speed or move your truck somewhere else) and the option to save your games as plain text, which lets you edit your profile’s balance and experience. All of this is for single-player only: using the console on TruckersMP is forbidden and gets you banned.
Which cheats actually exist in ATS
If you search for «american truck simulator infinite money» you’ll find lists of codes that don’t work and third-party programs of questionable origin. Here we only cover what’s part of the game itself:
- Developer mode and console: you turn them on by editing the
config.cfgfile. They’re documented on the official SCS modding wiki. - Free camera and teleport: with developer mode you can fly around with a debug camera and drop your truck wherever the camera is.
- Save editing: the game can save in text format, and the
game.siifile holds your profile’s money and experience. - Config variables: some of them, like
g_police, change game rules (withg_police 0you don’t get fines, according to the SCS documentation).
We don’t cover trainers, Cheat Engine or third-party tools: they can break your profile, they aren’t official and in multiplayer they’ll get you kicked.
How to enable the console in American Truck Simulator
- Close the game completely.
- Open the game folder in your documents. On Windows it’s
Documents\American Truck Simulator; on macOS,~/Library/Application Support/American Truck Simulator; on Linux,~/.local/share/American Truck Simulator. - Make a copy of
config.cfgin case you want to roll back, and open the original with a text editor (Notepad works). - Find the line
uset g_developer "0"and change it touset g_developer "1". - Find
uset g_console "0"and change it touset g_console "1". - Save the file, launch ATS and load your profile.
- Press the key right below Esc, to the left of 1 (the
~key on a US keyboard). The console opens at the top of the screen.
If it doesn’t open with your keyboard layout, you can rebind the key in your profile’s controls file. To turn everything off, set both values back to "0" or restore your copy of config.cfg.
Console commands that actually work
These commands appear in the SCS documentation. Type them into the console and press Enter:
| Command | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
g_set_time <hours> [minutes] |
Changes the in-game time | g_set_time 6 30 |
g_set_weather <index> [i|f] |
0 is good weather and 1 is bad weather; i makes a transition and f forces it instantly |
g_set_weather 0 f |
warp <value> |
Changes the game speed (1 is normal; lower is slower and higher is faster) | warp 0.5 |
goto <city> or goto <x;y;z> |
Moves the debug camera to a city or coordinate | goto "city name" |
g_traffic <value> |
Traffic density: 0 turns it off and the maximum is 10 | g_traffic 0 |
g_police 0 |
Turns off the police simulation and its fines | g_police 0 |
pause / save / screenshot |
Pauses, forces a save or takes a screenshot | save |
The money command you see on a lot of websites doesn’t exist in the SCS documentation, and players on the official Steam forums confirm the console has no code to add money.
Free camera and truck teleport
With developer mode on, the 0 key (the one on the number row) turns on the free camera. You move with the numpad: 8 and 5 to go forward and back, 4 and 6 to the sides, 9 and 3 to go up and down. When the camera is over the road, press Ctrl + F9 and your truck will appear there. Combined with goto, it lets you jump to another city. Keep in mind that teleporting doesn’t work on World of Trucks online jobs.
How to edit your profile’s money (single-player only)
This is the only official way to get as much money as you want in ATS. Take your time and always keep a backup.
- Backup: copy the whole
profilesfolder (or your profile’s folder) somewhere else. If something goes wrong, you restore it and you’re back where you started. - Text saves: in
config.cfg, changeuset g_save_format "0"touset g_save_format "2". According to the SCS wiki, a value of 2 forces text saves. You can also typeg_save_format 2in the console. - Steam Cloud: if your profile syncs with Steam Cloud, its saves aren’t in the
profilesfolder in Documents. Turn off the cloud in the profile options so it saves locally. - New save: load your profile, make a named manual save and quit the game.
- Edit game.sii: go to
profiles\(your profile folder)\save\(that save's folder)and opengame.siiwith a text editor. Look formoney_account:and change the number (no periods or commas). Experience is underexperience_points:. - Save the file, open the game and load that save.
- When you’re done, set
g_save_formatback to 0: the documentation warns that the text format makes saving slower and can cause stutters during autosaves.
Tip: go for a reasonable amount instead of absurd numbers. A few million is enough to buy trucks and garages, and your game still has goals to work toward.
What you should know before using cheats
- TruckersMP: its rules ban using any tool that changes gameplay, including the game console, trainers and Cheat Engine, with penalties ranging from six months to a permanent ban.
- Convoy (the official multiplayer): the session is shared by several players and the console isn’t meant to be used there. Don’t count on it working, and don’t edit the profile you play online with.
- Steam achievements: if you care about them, use a separate profile for tinkering. Skipping progression by editing your save can stop some achievements from unlocking normally.
- DLC: no legal cheat unlocks maps or paid content. If you want to know which expansions exist, check out our American Truck Simulator DLC guide.
Legit ways to make money faster
If you’d rather not touch any files, the game already gives you tools to speed up your economy. Put points into the skills that unlock better-paying jobs: hazardous cargo, long distance, high-value cargo, fragile cargo and urgent delivery. Eco driving cuts your fuel costs. The in-game bank lets you take out loans to buy your first truck sooner, and with garages and hired drivers you earn income while you drive. And if you want to change the game in other ways, our ATS mod directory has maps like Reforma and a guide to installing mods in ATS.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an infinite money code in American Truck Simulator?
No. The console has no command to add money. The only official way is to edit money_account in the game.sii file of a game saved in text format.
Why doesn’t the console open when I press the key?
Check that g_developer and g_console are set to «1» in the config.cfg in Documents, and that you edited the file with the game closed. If your keyboard doesn’t have the ~ key in that spot, rebind it in your profile’s controls.
Can I use these cheats on TruckersMP?
No. TruckersMP’s rules explicitly ban using the game console, trainers or Cheat Engine, and penalties range from six months to a permanent ban.
How do I roll back if something goes wrong?
Restore the copy of your profile folder you made before editing, and set g_developer, g_console and g_save_format back to «0».
Does it work on Mac and Linux?
Yes. The process is the same; only the game folder path changes, and you’ll find it in step 2.
