What this mod does
Realistic Train Lengths changes something almost nobody notices until they’re waiting at a railroad crossing: the length of the trains. Its author studied videos of real trains in each country and adjusted the makeup for each locomotive so it resembles what actually runs on the rails. It has more than 115,000 subscribers on Steam.
What it changes
- Different train lengths and types depending on the country.
- Uniform freight trains (flatcars, tank cars, hoppers) recreated with the game’s own railcars.
- Train makeups tailored to each locomotive.
Requirement: Sound Fixes Pack
It requires Sound Fixes Pack by Drive Safely; without it, some trains may have no sound. Realistic Train Lengths must go above Sound Fixes Pack in the Mod Manager.
Known limitations
- Some trains are missing in Romania: they’re in the files, but a game issue keeps them from appearing.
- For the same reason, the Renfe 252 and CP 5600 electric locomotives from Spain and Portugal don’t show up.
- Older countries that haven’t been reworked, like the United Kingdom, aren’t included.
- There are no intermodal trains, because the game doesn’t have those railcars, and no timber trains.
The author says the mod isn’t version-locked, although he only supports the current version of the game.

How to install it
- Subscribe to Sound Fixes Pack on Steam Workshop if you don't have it.
- Subscribe to Realistic Train Lengths.
- In the Mod Manager, place Realistic Train Lengths above Sound Fixes Pack.
- Load your save and head to a railway to see the new trains.

Common problems
Is Sound Fixes Pack required?
Yes. The author lists it as a requirement; without it some trains may have no sound.
Does it affect Spain and Portugal?
Yes, although the Renfe 252 and CP 5600 electric locomotives don't appear due to a game issue.
Does it work on 1.61?
The author says it isn't version-locked; his last update is from July 11, 2026 (the 1.60 era).
