What this mod does
Dragon Nestkeeper is the dragon mod by BlackAuresArt, the author of Aures – Rare Monsters. You don’t tame them by force here: you find a nest, raise the dragon and end up riding it.
How it works
- Nests: there are destroyed or abandoned nests that give resources and, sometimes, an unhatched egg. If you can’t find one, you can buy a dragon.
- Growth: the dragon goes through four stages and each one requires a specific food. Hatchlings can be caught with any cloth item, and adults are healed by petting them.
- Mount: adults can be ridden; with shears you remove their saddle and set them free.
- Trading: a race of Saurian merchants buys and sells dragon items. You need to craft the Nestkeeper bench and the Saurian merchant statue, which also summons a dragon for sale.
Species
The plains dragon lives in grasslands and forests, has more health and flies lower; the tundra dragon, from icy regions, goes farther. Both eat meat and cost 60 essences (life or ice).
The «flight» is really long jumps, because Hytale doesn’t support flying mounts yet. Version 0.6.1 (August 28, 2026) is the version for Hytale 0.6. With Update 7 (0.7), released October 12, 2026, wait for the author to publish a compatible file.
Checked on October 20, 2026: the author hasn’t published a file tagged for Hytale 0.7 (Update 7) on CurseForge yet. We’ll check again and update this page as soon as it’s out.

Requirements
- Hytale (Early Access) on PC, version 0.6 (file 0.6.1_Aures_Dragon Nestkeeper_28_08_2026.zip)
- No dependencies: it doesn't need any other mods
- Best enabled before creating the world, although it can also be added to an existing one
How to install it
- Open the Aures - Dragon Nestkeeper page on CurseForge and click Install to install it with the CurseForge app, or download 0.6.1_Aures_Dragon Nestkeeper_28_08_2026.zip from the Files tab (the file tagged 0.6).
- If you download it manually, copy the file as is, without unzipping it, into your mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
- Open Hytale, right-click the world, tick Aures - Dragon Nestkeeper in the mod list and save the world settings.
- On a dedicated server, put the file in the server's mods folder and restart it.
- In-game, look for nests in grasslands and forests (plains dragon) or in the tundra and snowy mountains (tundra dragon), or craft the Nestkeeper bench and the Saurian merchant statue to buy one.

Common problems
Do the dragons really fly?
Not quite. Hytale doesn't support flying mounts yet, so flight is limited to long jumps. The tundra dragon goes farther; the plains dragon flies lower but is tougher.
What do I do if I can't find any nest?
The author explains that it depends on how Hytale distributes creature spawn points and advises killing monsters to free up slots. You can also buy a dragon from the Saurian merchants.
Is it compatible with other mods?
According to the author it should work with any mod or modpack, and it has no dependencies.
Will it be expanded?
It's not planned: the author canceled the combat mode and the new dragon types due to lack of interest.
