Hytale commands: full list and how to enable them

Hytale commands by category (creative, teleport, items, time, weather and server), what's new in Update 7 and how to get OP permissions to use them.

Updated: 24 Oct 2026

Hytale commands are typed in chat starting with a slash (/), for example /gamemode creative or /tp FriendName. Almost all of them require operator (OP) permissions: in a single-player world you give them to yourself with /op self, and on a dedicated server an admin has to grant them with /op add <player> from the console. If you don’t remember the syntax, type /help to see the list for your version and /help <command> to see how a specific one works.

Hytale has been in Early Access since January 2026 and commands change with updates. Below are the ones that match across the official documentation, patch notes and guides from the main server providers, grouped by use. The list was checked in Update 6 and has been reviewed for Update 7 (0.7), from October 12, 2026: according to its official notes, /portal replaces /fragment, /leave becomes /portal leave and /worldevent arrives. We explain it further down.

How to use commands

  1. Open the in-game chat and type the command starting with /.
  2. Press Enter to run it. If you’re missing a parameter, the game will show you the correct syntax.
  3. Optional parameters are written with two dashes and a space before the value, for example --quantity 10.
  4. Adding --help to a command shows its subcommands (for example /perm --help).

On a dedicated server you can also type them in the server console, which has all permissions. That’s the usual way to grant the first OP and to authenticate the server with /auth login device, as the official server manual explains.

How to enable commands (OP permissions)

Hytale doesn’t have a «cheats» toggle like other block games: what decides whether you can use a command is the permission system. By default there are two groups, Default (regular players) and OP, which has all permissions.

  • Single-player world: type /op self in chat. From then on you can use admin commands in that world.
  • Dedicated server: from the console, /op add YourName. The /op self command only works on a server if it was started with the --allow-op argument, which appears in the official server help. Don’t leave it on for a public server, because anyone could make themselves OP.
  • Permissions file: permissions are stored in permissions.json. According to the official manual, config files are read at startup and overwritten when something changes in-game, so edit it with the server off.

If you’d rather manage the server with menus instead of commands, check out the AdminUI mod.

Player and game mode commands

Command What it does
/gamemode creative Switches to Creative mode (flight and building tools). Alias: /gm.
/gamemode adventure Goes back to Adventure mode (Exploration mode, with survival).
/gamemode <mode> <player> Changes another player’s game mode.
/give <item> Gives you an item by its internal ID.
/give <player> <item> --quantity 10 Gives a specific amount to another player. Since Update 1 it also supports durability.
/heal Fully restores health and stamina.
/kill Kills your character so you respawn (handy if you get stuck).
/whoami Shows your name and UUID, which some permission commands need.
/help List of commands available to you.

Teleport commands

Command What it does
/tp <player> Teleports you to another player.
/tp <x> <y> <z> Takes you to a set of coordinates.
/tp <player> <targetPlayer> Moves one player to another. The argument order was fixed in Update 1.
/tp back Returns you to your previous position.
/tp top Puts you on the highest block at your position.
/spawn Takes you to the world spawn point.
/spawn set Sets the spawn point where you’re standing.
/warp set <name> / /warp <name> Creates a fast-travel point and travels to it. /warp list shows them.

World commands: time and weather

Command What it does
/time Shows the world time.
/time dawn, midday, dusk, midnight Sets the time to dawn, midday, dusk or midnight.
/weather set <weather> Forces a type of weather.
/weather reset Returns the weather to its natural cycle.

Weather names and item IDs are internal identifiers in English (even though the game has been available in Spanish since Update 7). Check /help weather or /help give in your version to see the valid values.

New or changed commands in Update 7

These are the command changes listed in the official Update 7 (Chapter I) notes:

Command What it does
/portal Replaces the old /fragment. If you had it written down, use /portal now.
/portal leave Replaces the old /leave.
/worldevent New. Turns world events on or off. You can also do it from the world settings; they’re off in Creative.

The notes don’t detail the full syntax of these commands. Type /help portal or /help worldevent in your game to see their subcommands and parameters. All of the chapter’s new content is in our Hytale Update 7 guide.

Server admin commands

Command What it does
/op add <player> / /op remove <player> Grants or removes operator permissions.
/perm Manages user groups and permissions. Use /perm --help to see the subcommands.
/whitelist add <player> Adds someone to the whitelist. There are also remove, enable, disable and list.
/kick <player> Kicks a player from the session.
/ban <player> / /unban <player> Bans or unbans a player.
/who Lists connected players.
/say <message> Sends an announcement to the whole server.
/maxplayers Shows or changes the maximum number of players.
/ping Checks connection latency.
/auth login device Authenticates the server with your Hytale account (documented in the official manual).
/auth status Checks whether the server is still authenticated.
/update check / /update apply --confirm Checks for server updates and applies the downloaded one (added in Update 2).

Related startup arguments

Some settings aren’t chat commands but arguments you add when launching HytaleServer.jar. These appear in the official manual:

  • --allow-op: lets players use /op self.
  • --bind: changes the listening port (UDP 5520 by default).
  • --backup: turns on automatic backups.
  • --auth-mode: authentication mode (authenticated by default).
  • --allow-install-dir: new in Update 7. Since that version, the server won’t start (it exits with code 11) if its data would be written inside the launcher’s install folder, which every update patches or wipes. This option forces it, although the recommended fix is to move the server to another folder.

If you don’t have a server yet, follow the guide to create a Hytale server. Some mods, like Simple Claims, add their own commands, which you’ll also see with /help.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say I don’t have permission to use a command?

Because you’re not OP in that world or server. In a single-player world, type /op self. On a server, ask an admin to add you with /op add or do it yourself from the console. You may have to rejoin for the permissions to apply.

How do you switch to Creative mode in Hytale with commands?

With /gamemode creative (or /gm creative). To go back to normal mode, use /gamemode adventure. You need to be OP.

Why doesn’t /op self work on my server?

Because on a dedicated server it only works if the server was started with --allow-op. The safest option is to give yourself OP from the console with /op add YourName.

Is using commands cheating?

No. They’re official game tools for managing worlds and servers. On other people’s servers you can only use the ones the admin allows.

What happened to /fragment and /leave?

Since Update 7, /fragment has been replaced by /portal and /leave by /portal leave.

How do I turn world events on or off?

Since Update 7, with the /worldevent command or from the world settings. They’re off in Creative worlds.

Where can I see the full list of commands?

In-game, with /help. That list always matches your version and includes commands added by any mods you have installed.
