Assetto Corsa has one of the biggest modding communities of any sim. The quick way to install mods is Content Manager; you can also do it manually if you understand the folder structure.
Before you start: CSP
Most modern cars and tracks need Custom Shaders Patch. Install it first: without it, many mods look wrong or don’t load.
With Content Manager (recommended)
- Download the mod from its author’s page.
- Drag the .zip, .rar or .7z into the Content Manager window.
- Check what it detects (car, track, skin…) and click Install.
- Find it under Cars or Tracks and launch it in a quick race.
Manual installation
Everything goes inside the game folder, usually steamapps\common\assettocorsa:
- Cars:
content\cars\car_name - Tracks:
content\tracks\track_name - Skins:
content\cars\car_name\skins\skin_name - Apps:
apps\python\app_name, then enable it in the game options.
The most common mistake is leaving an extra folder: content\cars\mod\car_name won’t work. The car folder should directly contain files like data.acd or the data folder, plus the .kn5 files.
If something goes wrong
- The car or track doesn’t show up: check the folder structure above and restart Content Manager.
- The track has missing textures or weird lighting: it usually needs a newer version of CSP.
- I can’t join an online server: you need exactly the same content as the server; Content Manager shows what’s missing and sometimes downloads it for you.
- I want better graphics: check out Pure (paid) or Sol (free, but only with older CSP versions).
Safety
Always download from the author’s page or a well-known platform. Be wary of «paid cars for free»: besides being illegal, they’re a common way to sneak in malware.
