What this mod does
RARE (Rules and Race Enhancements) is an app by VRC – Schmawlik that fixes Assetto Corsa’s shortcomings in race rules, AI and race setup, especially for open-wheelers. It works in offline single races and is very popular with people who race modern formula cars.
What it adds
- Rule-based DRS for the player and the AI: only if you’re within one second at the detection line, after two laps and on a dry track.
- DRS-available beep and wing sound, with adjustable volumes.
- Per-track compound limits, configurable to mimic real-world restrictions, plus correct colors for hards, mediums and softs.
- AI that starts on a full tank and never refuels, and that pits for tires when their average life drops below a threshold.
- Alternative AI level that goes flat out on the straights so it’s more competitive at low difficulty settings.
- On-screen race control messages.
Installation
It isn’t installed with Content Manager: you have to copy the files into the game’s root folder. The first time on each track you press the injection button, which creates a «RARE» layout and restarts the game.
Versions
The stable version is 1.1.5.0 and it needs Custom Shaders Patch 0.1.79. Preview builds of 1.2.0.0 are offered to Patreon supporters. Some recent reviews warn of bugs with newer CSP versions.

How to install it
- Update Custom Shaders Patch to 0.1.79 or later.
- Go to the RARE page on OverTake.gg, log in and download the file.
- Delete the old RARE folder from the Lua apps folder if you had another version.
- Copy the file's contents into the Assetto Corsa root folder; don't install it with Content Manager.
- In the RARE setup menu, press the injection button for each new track; the game will restart.
- In Content Manager, pick the track's RARE layout and check on screen that RARE Enabled shows TRUE.

Common problems
The game restarts the first time
That's normal: RARE creates its own layout on each new track and restarts.
Does it work in race weekends or online?
No. Only in offline single races.
I get an error related to fuel_cons.ini
According to reviews, you can fix it by unpacking the car's data and checking that file.
