What this mod does
Mack R Series brings a North American road classic to American Truck Simulator: the late-1970s Mack R. It’s one of the most-subscribed mod trucks on the ATS Workshop, and its team keeps it up to date with every version of the game.
What’s included
- R600 hood with a day cab, which is the only configuration for now.
- Dimensions based on real Mack specs and modeled from lots of reference photos, with a modest polygon count.
- Period-correct engines and transmissions with realistic torque curves.
- Detailed, fully animated interior.
- Engine sound by Kriechbaum, recorded by Trayscapes.
- Original paint jobs and a system of separately paintable parts.
- Standard SCS truck features, such as advanced coupling and trailer cables.
Where to buy it
Even though it’s a Mack, in the game you’ll find it at the Kenworth dealer.
What you won’t find
The author makes it clear that he won’t add engines over 1,000 hp, modern engines or transmissions, chassis with more than three axles, a right-hand-drive version or lowered chassis. It’s a truck meant for enjoying a classic exactly as it was.
Version
The latest update, from September 2026, is the compatibility update for ATS 1.61. It doesn’t work on TruckersMP.

Requirements
- American Truck Simulator 1.61
- No DLC required (there are optional support mods for some steering wheel DLC)
How to install it
- Open the Mack R Series page on Steam Workshop.
- Click "Subscribe" and wait for the nearly 390 MB to download.
- Launch the game and enable the mod in the Mod Manager.
- If you own the steering wheel DLC listed on the page, you can also subscribe to their optional support mods.
- Load your save and go to a Kenworth dealer to buy the Mack R.

Common problems
I can't find it at the Mack dealer
It's sold at Kenworth dealers.
Does it work on TruckersMP?
No. The author says it doesn't work on TruckersMP.
Will it get a sleeper cab or more power?
For now there's only the R600 day cab, and the author rules out modern engines or engines over 1,000 hp.
