What this mod does

BetterBiomes expands Hytale’s world generation with new sub-biomes, mountain types, caves and small structures, almost all built from base-game blocks so they match its style. It’s made by MutigerAffe, licensed under MIT, and version 1.5.0, released October 20, 2026, is for Hytale 0.7.

What it adds

  • Zone 1: cherry groves, jungle, redwoods, savanna and karst peaks, among others.
  • Zone 2: a dune sea, a buried city, salt flats, mangroves and ash spires.
  • Zone 3: pink ice, runic moors and colorful auroras at night.
  • Zone 4 and oceans: Void scars, volcanoes, floating islands, coral reefs and sunken ruins.
  • Themed caves, 20 flowers, 15 wood sets, and per-biome weather and wildlife (camels, crocodiles, flamingos).

What’s new in 1.5.0

Fruit trees and new saplings, meandering lakes, chests with zone-based loot, graves that may spawn a skeleton, desert wind and new biomes such as Lagoon or Drift Ice.

It works on servers and in single-player, but it only changes chunks that haven’t been generated yet: explore new areas or start a new world. It requires UtilityBiome 1.1.0. To find your way around the zones, check out the zones and biomes guide.

Highlights and things to keep in mind

Highlights
  • Lots of new content with a vanilla look
  • Configurable and MIT-licensed
  • Works on servers
  • Almost weekly updates
Keep in mind
  • Requires UtilityBiome
  • Only affects new chunks
  • Recent project with few downloads (around 1,200)

Requirements

Install first: UtilityBiome
  • Hytale (Early Access) on PC or server, version 0.7 (file BetterBiomes-1.5.0.jar)
  • UtilityBiome 1.1.0 or later (required)
  • A new world or unexplored areas: it only affects new chunks

How to install it

  1. Install UtilityBiome from its CurseForge page (version 1.1.0 or later): BetterBiomes 1.5.0 requires it.
  2. Open the BetterBiomes page on CurseForge and click Install, or download BetterBiomes-1.5.0.jar from the Files tab (the file tagged 0.7).
  3. If you install it manually, copy both .jar files, without unzipping them, into your mods folder: on Windows %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods (on a server, its mods folder).
  4. Create a new world or travel to areas you haven't explored, and enable both mods in the world settings.
  5. To go to a specific biome, use /locate biome with its name (for example, BetterBiomes_Cherry_Grove --tp) or UtilityBiome's /ub where and /ub cave commands.

Common problems

Does it work in an existing world?

Yes, but only in chunks that haven't been generated yet. Areas you've already explored don't change.

Can I turn parts off?

Yes. In the BetterBiomes.json file in the mod's data folder you can turn off structures, features or, since 1.5.0, specific biomes with DisabledBiomes (requires a restart).

Does it clash with other worldgen mods?

It doesn't replace base-game files, but the author warns that mods replacing vanilla zone files will probably conflict.
