No: as of October 22, 2026, Hytale isn’t available on any console. There’s no version for PS5, PS4, Xbox or Nintendo Switch, and no release date has been announced. For now you can only play on a computer: Windows 10 and 11, Macs with Apple Silicon, and Linux. Hypixel Studios has said it plans to bring the game to consoles «later on,» but first wants to focus on making a great PC game during Early Access.

What Hypixel Studios has said about consoles
These are the official statements so far:
- November 2025, when the founders got the game back: the plan was to launch on Windows, «try» for Linux and Mac, and bring it to other platforms «much later.»
- December 2025, in its first FAQ: the studio confirmed it plans a console version at a later stage, but not during Early Access. It explained that consoles require a lot of work on the backend systems and that, for now, they’d rather focus on PC.
- January 2026: Kevin Carstens, co-founder and technical director, said on social media that before going to consoles or mobile, they’ll bring Hytale to Steam Deck and other handheld gaming PCs.
The studio hasn’t said which consoles will get the game. Any PS5, Xbox or Switch date you see in videos or on websites is speculation.
Why is it taking so long?
During the Riot Games era, the team was rebuilding Hytale on a new cross-platform engine written in C++. When the founders bought the game back in November 2025, they scrapped that engine and went back to the old one, which was already playable, so they could focus on making the game instead of the engine. That old engine is the one the PC version uses today. On top of that, the studio is betting on modding, which tends to be more limited on consoles. You’ll find the full story in Hytale release date.
Can you play Hytale with a controller?
On PC, partly. Outlets covering Update 5 (May 2026) reported early support for Xbox, PlayStation and Switch controllers, but the official store still says Early Access is missing accessibility features such as controller support. Check the Accessibility page on hytale.com for the current status. If your PC is hooked up to a TV, you can play from the couch, although it isn’t a console version.
What about cloud gaming or Steam Deck?
- Cloud gaming: Hytale isn’t on services like GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming or PlayStation Plus, and there’s no official announcement about it. Services that rent you a full Windows PC in the cloud, like Shadow, let you install it as you would on any computer, but you still have to buy the game and it isn’t an option the studio backs.
- Steam Deck: there’s no official version and the game isn’t on Steam. Some gaming outlets have reported that you can get it running in the Steam Deck’s desktop mode using the Linux version, but that’s unsupported and results may vary. The studio has said it will support Steam Deck and handheld PCs before consoles.
Hytale on Mac and Linux
If you don’t have a Windows PC, these are your official options:
- Mac: you need a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and macOS Tahoe (26.0). An M1 meets the minimum requirements and an M2 the recommended ones.
- Linux: x64 machines with kernel 6.15. The launcher installs as a Flatpak. The studio released the Linux version as experimental because of the variety of distributions.

Watch out for fake «console versions»
Since lots of people search for «Hytale PS4» or «Hytale Xbox,» there are videos and websites promising console or mobile downloads. They don’t exist: Hytale is only sold at store.hytale.com and played on PC, Mac and Linux. If anyone asks for your PlayStation Network, Xbox or Nintendo details to «unlock» Hytale, it’s a scam. Official support points out that the only Hytale domains are hytale.com and store.hytale.com.
