Hytale system requirements: minimum and recommended specs

Official Hytale system requirements: minimum and recommended CPU, RAM, GPU and SSD, Mac and Linux support, and tips for running it on a low-end PC.

Updated: 24 Oct 2026

At minimum, Hytale asks for an Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 processor, 8 GB of RAM, integrated graphics like Intel UHD Graphics 620 or a dedicated NVIDIA GTX 900 series card, and an SSD with 10 GB free. With that, Hypixel Studios targets 1080p at 30 FPS with a 192-block view distance. The recommended specs step up to an i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600 and 16 GB of RAM to play at 60 FPS with 384 blocks. It runs on Windows 10 and 11, on Linux and on Macs with Apple Silicon. These are the official figures from the Hytale download page.

Your graphics card also needs to support OpenGL 4.1. The official site warns that the game may require Vulkan 1.3 and DirectX 12 in the future. You need an internet connection to download the game and for periodic authentication, but you can play offline.

Hytale on Mac and Linux

At the Early Access launch, the team explained it was starting with Windows and would add Linux and Mac over time. Today the official download page includes both:

  • Mac: Apple Silicon chips with macOS Tahoe (26.0) only. An M1 covers the minimum specs and an M2 the recommended ones. Intel-based Macs aren’t on the official list.
  • Linux: x64 machines with kernel 6.15. The site doesn’t mention specific distributions.

What affects performance the most

In its article on system requirements, Hypixel Studios gives two key pointers for understanding performance:

  • View distance is the heaviest setting. Every time you double it (for example, from 192 to 384 blocks), you quadruple the amount of world your machine has to handle. That’s why the minimum specs are measured at 192 and the recommended ones at 384, the distance the world was designed for.
  • Single-player is more demanding than playing online. In single-player, your computer runs the game plus the local server: creatures, world generation and simulation. In multiplayer, the server lives on another machine and your PC only handles the graphics and your gameplay, so the same hardware usually runs better.

In that same article, from December 2025, the team called for 12 GB of RAM to play single-player on integrated graphics, because integrated graphics use part of the system memory. The current download page lists 8 GB without making that distinction, but if your laptop has no dedicated GPU, the more RAM you have, the better.

Tips for playing Hytale on a low-end PC

  1. Lower the view distance. It’s the change you’ll notice most. Start at 192 blocks or less and raise it gradually.
  2. Try a server. If your PC is struggling in single-player, joining a friend’s world or server takes the simulation load off it.
  3. Install the game on an SSD. It’s an official requirement, even for the minimum specs.
  4. Use the dedicated GPU on laptops. Check in your graphics control panel or in Windows graphics settings that Hytale is using the dedicated GPU and not the integrated one.
  5. Update your graphics drivers, especially with Intel or AMD integrated graphics.
  6. Close background programs, such as browsers with lots of tabs or video recorders, to free up RAM.
  7. Watch out for heavy mods. Mods run on the server, which in single-player is your own PC. If you notice frame drops, disable them in that world. We show you how in the Hytale mods guide.

Hytale server requirements

If you want to set up a dedicated server, the requirements are different. According to the official manual, the server needs Java 25 and at least 4 GB of memory, runs on x64 and arm64, and uses UDP port 5520. We cover it in the guide to creating a Hytale server. Frequently asked questions

Does Hytale run on 8 GB of RAM?

Yes, 8 GB is the official minimum. With integrated graphics in single-player it’s tighter, because the GPU uses part of that memory. Lower the view distance and close other programs.

Can I play Hytale without a dedicated graphics card?

Yes. The official requirements include integrated graphics such as Intel UHD Graphics 620 or AMD Radeon Vega 6 in the minimum specs, and Intel Iris Xe or AMD Radeon 660M in the recommended ones.

Does Hytale work on a hard disk drive (HDD)?

The official requirements call for an SSD in both the minimum and recommended specs. An HDD isn’t guaranteed to work, and you’ll most likely get stuttering while the world loads.

Does Hytale work on an Intel Mac?

The official site only lists Macs with Apple Silicon and macOS Tahoe (26.0). Intel Macs aren’t included in the requirements.

How much space does Hytale take up?

The official site asks for at least 10 GB free on an SSD, and 20 GB for the recommended specs. Leave extra room for worlds, backups and mods.
