No, Hytale isn’t on Steam. As of October 3, 2026, it’s only sold in its official store, store.hytale.com, and you download and install it with Hypixel Studios’ own launcher. Before launch, the studio said it wouldn’t come to Steam «at first,» and it hasn’t announced any date since. What you can do, if you want everything in one place, is add the Hytale launcher to your Steam library as a «non-Steam game,» on Steam Deck too, although without official support.
What Hypixel Studios has said about Steam
- December 2025, official FAQ: asked whether Hytale would come to Steam, the answer was «no, not at first.» The reason: they want to spend early access improving the game with their community, rather than getting a flood of first impressions from people who don’t know the game’s development history. The studio also explained that Steam doesn’t yet support some of the modding features it’s planning and that it would discuss this with Valve.
- December 2025, official requirements article: Hypixel said it doesn’t plan to launch on Steam until it determines whether it can comply with Steam’s policies.
- January 2026: executive producer Patrick Derbic stressed that this «doesn’t mean Hytale will never be on Steam,» but that right now they don’t see the need.
Since its early access launch on January 13, 2026, the game has received several updates and still has no Steam store page. Specialized outlets that follow the game confirmed in late September 2026 that it isn’t on Steam or on consoles. If you see a «Hytale Steam page» or a Steam key for sale, it’s fake.
Where to buy Hytale
Hytale is only sold at store.hytale.com. The official process is:
- Go to store.hytale.com and choose an early access edition.
- Sign in with your Hytale account or create one.
- Choose your payment method and pay. You’ll get an email with your order number.
- Download the launcher from the official website, sign in and install the game.

How to add Hytale to your Steam library
Steam lets you add any program installed on your PC as a shortcut in your library. This doesn’t turn Hytale into a Steam game: it just lets you open the launcher from Steam.
- Install Hytale with the official launcher and make sure it starts.
- Open Steam and, in the Games menu, choose Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library. You can also use the Add a Game button in the bottom-left corner of the library.
- Look for Hytale Launcher in the list. If it doesn’t show up, click Browse and select the launcher executable in the folder where you installed it.
- Click Add Selected Programs. Hytale will appear in your library, and you can rename it from its properties.
Keep in mind that you’ll still sign in with your Hytale account, updates are downloaded by the launcher and you won’t get Steam achievements, Workshop, reviews or refunds. Your mods are managed the same as always; we explain how in how to install mods in Hytale.
Hytale on Steam Deck
There’s no official Steam Deck version. Here’s what the studio has said:
- In December 2025, co-founder and technical director Kevin Carstens explained that it could technically work on Steam Deck, but that the small screen, gamepad controls and battery require extra work. He added that they wouldn’t stop people from installing it and trying it.
- In January 2026 he said they’ll bring Hytale to Steam Deck and other PC handhelds before consoles or mobile, although it isn’t a requirement for version 1.0.
- Update 5 (May 2026) added initial controller support, with improvements such as Steam Input planned for later, according to the specialized press.
Since the Steam Deck runs Linux, the method described by specialized outlets is to use the official Linux version, which is distributed as a Flatpak:
- Switch the Steam Deck to Desktop Mode.
- Download the Linux launcher from the official Hytale website and install it (it’s a Flatpak file; you can open it with the software manager or install it from the terminal).
- Open Steam in Desktop Mode and add the launcher as a non-Steam game, just like in the previous section.
- Go back to Gaming Mode: Hytale will appear in your library, in the non-Steam games section.
This is unsupported: the Linux version launched as experimental, SteamOS isn’t on the official requirements list and performance or controls may break after an update. If you have a Windows handheld, like the ROG Ally or Legion Go, it installs just like on any Windows PC.
What would change if Hytale came to Steam
Nothing has been announced yet, so this is what would depend on Steam rather than on the game:
- Public reviews on the Steam page, exactly what the studio wanted to avoid during early access.
- Steam features such as achievements, Steam’s refund system or official Steam Deck compatibility verification.
- Mods: according to Hypixel, Steam doesn’t currently support all the modding features it has planned, so Hytale’s CurseForge-based mod system wouldn’t necessarily move to the Workshop.
Hypixel also hasn’t said what would happen to copies bought from the official store if the game ever came to Steam. Don’t buy Steam keys or «accounts with Hytale» on third-party sites: right now the only legitimate purchase is at store.hytale.com.
