What this mod does
10 & 18 Speed Differential / Final Drive, by yusogame, adds alternative differential (final drive) ratios to several 10- and 18-speed transmissions. The individual gear ratios don’t change: only the differential, which decides whether the truck cruises more relaxed on the highway or pulls harder under load.
Options for 18-speed transmissions
- 3.36: balanced, for general use, highway and heavy loads.
- 3.55: heavy haul, steep grades and maximum traction.
- The stock 3.25 ratio isn’t included: to use it, pick the standard transmission.
Options for 10-speed transmissions
- 2.64: the stock ratio, for low-RPM road driving (this one is included).
- 3.08: balanced, for medium and heavy loads.
- 3.36: for heavy loads, grades and low-speed hauling.
Which one to pick
A lower ratio gives fewer engine RPM at the same speed; a higher one gives more torque at the wheels. Choose based on weight, terrain and the cruising speed you want.
Compatibility
It works with the transmissions of many Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Mack, Peterbilt, Volvo, Western Star and Ford trucks. It depends on each transmission’s definition, so modded trucks may need their own patch. The author marks it for ATS 1.60 and the 1.61 open beta.
