What this mod does
Toxic Sand Dunes is a huge sand dune map built for off-roading. Part of the terrain is inspired by Colorado’s Great Sand Dunes, though not at realistic scale, and the result is a sea of sand where 4×4 is almost mandatory.
What’s included
- Dunes with sand physics and custom sand and smoke particles made for the map.
- Dune bashing areas and drag-race-style hill climbs.
- A Dakar-style rally route with a finish line.
- Two asphalt arenas for drifting and car testing.
- Experimental tire tracks in the sand, available in the forum thread.
Who it’s for
If you like buggies, trophy trucks or just getting lost in the dunes, there’s plenty of room here. The author stresses that it’s very big and that you should use all-wheel drive. Some players notice leftovers from the official Johnson Valley map in certain corners.
Version notes
Version 1.4, from March 2025, reverts changes that were causing problems and goes back to the last original version. It doesn’t list a game version; at that date the current one was 0.34. In 2025 and 2026 there are complaints about grass in the middle of the trails and orange errors after updates; the author points to conflicts with other mods.

How to install it
- Open the Toxic Sand Dunes page on the official BeamNG Repository.
- Click Download to get the .zip, or subscribe from the in-game Repository.
- If you download it manually, copy the .zip (don't unzip it) into the mods folder in your user folder (from the launcher: Manage User Folder > Open in Explorer).
- Launch the game, check in the Mod Manager that it's enabled and pick Toxic Sand Dunes from the map list.
- If it won't load or you fall through the ground, disable other mods and load this map first.

Common problems
Do I need a 4x4?
The author strongly recommends it because of the sand.
It won't load or I fall through the map, what do I do?
The author blames conflicts with other mods: disable them, restart and load this map first.
Does it work on new versions?
The mod page doesn't say; in August 2026 a player saw the grass with orange errors after the latest game update.
