What this mod does
Forest Hue’s Companion NPCs lets you recruit companions who fight, farm, mine, pick up loot and carry their own inventory. You manage them with roles and stances from an interface (/fhc) or remotely with the companion radio.
Recruiting
Wild companions spawn in Zone 1 (plains, forests, swamps and rocky areas) only rarely, at 1%, and only at certain times of day. Press F on them to recruit them.
Roles and stances
- Fighter, farmer and miner; since 0.7.0 also mage, healer (at level 10 it revives a fallen companion) and merchant with their own shops.
- The farmer works a plot you mark with two corners (14 crops) and the miner digs in one direction or searches for a specific resource.
- Stances: follow, stay, free and patrol. They can drop their loot into linked chests.
- They level up by fighting, mining and farming, and equip themselves with what they earn.
The companion radio is crafted at the workbench (Tinkering tab). There’s also an experimental possession feature to control a companion. The config is generated in JSON the first time.
Version 0.8.0 (September 11, 2026) adds movement across the map and keeps companions’ chunks loaded. It’s for Hytale 0.6: with Update 7, released October 12, 2026, wait for a compatible file.
Checked on October 20, 2026: the author hasn’t published a file tagged for Hytale 0.7 (Update 7) on CurseForge yet. We’ll check again and update this page as soon as it’s out.

Highlights and things to keep in mind
- Six roles: fighter, farmer, miner, mage, healer and merchant
- Companions that level up and gear up on their own
- Doesn't need other mods (HyUI is bundled)
- Portals can "store" your companions: you may have to summon them again
- Possession is experimental: don't quit the game or use portals while controlling a companion
- Some features don't work in Creative mode; with Update 7 (released October 12, 2026), you'll need to wait for a compatible version
Requirements
- Hytale (Early Access) on PC, version 0.6 (file FH_CompanionNPCs-0.8.0.jar)
- No dependencies: HyUI is bundled inside the file itself
- For PvP between companions, PvP must be enabled in the world settings
How to install it
- Open the Forest Hue's Companion NPCs page on CurseForge and click Install to install it with the CurseForge app, or download FH_CompanionNPCs-0.8.0.jar from the Files tab (the file tagged 0.6).
- If you download it manually, copy the file as is, without unzipping it, into your mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
- Open Hytale, right-click the world and tick Forest Hue's Companion NPCs in the mod list. Leave the "Recipe Override Mod" that the mod itself creates unticked, and save the settings.
- On a dedicated server, put the file in the server's mods folder and restart it.
- In-game, find a wild companion in Zone 1 and press F to recruit it; open the interface with /fhc to assign it a role and stance.

Common problems
How much does it cost to recruit a companion?
The page doesn't mention any cost: you just need to find a wild one and press F. They're rare (1%) and spawn at specific times.
What happens if a companion dies?
You can revive it; in the example config it costs 50 life essences. A level 10 healer also revives a fallen companion every 5 minutes.
Does it work with firearms from other mods?
Only partly: the author warns that HyGuns is outdated and causes problems (no effects, flamethrowers and grenades misbehaving).
Does it run well on servers?
It's had little testing on servers. Large battles may require tuning the config; the author recommends staying well below his tests with 300 wild companions and 15 farmers.
