What this mod does
HyDragon is the dragon mod by alechilles, the author of Alec’s Tamework and Alec’s Animal Husbandry. It adds tameable dragons that level up, can be ridden and fight in the air.
Dragons
- Hydras: ice, winged toxic and fire, which since 1.4.0 spawns on volcanic ground in Zone 4 and shoots fireballs.
- Fire-breathing Nordic drakes in forests and underground rock drakes (stone, ice or volcanic).
- Ghoul Dragon, new in 1.4.0: four looks, spawns by day and by night in Zone 2 and fights on the ground and in the air.
How to tame them
Large dragons are captured with draconic stones and summoned with the dragon flute. With draconic essences you craft stronger stones and the dragon horn, which also restores fallen companions. The winged forms let you fly while mounted. The miniwyvern is bound to your soul and can be attuned to fire, ice, lightning, nature, toxin or void, each with its own talent tree.
It requires Alec’s Tamework 5.0.0 or later, Beacon and Patchwork. Version 1.4.0 (October 4, 2026) works on Hytale 0.6 and the author already declares it compatible with the Update 7 prerelease; Update 7 was released October 12, 2026. Even so, back up your world before updating the game.
Checked on October 20, 2026: the author hasn’t published a file tagged for Hytale 0.7 (Update 7) on CurseForge yet. We’ll check again and update this page as soon as it’s out.

Requirements
- Hytale (Early Access) on PC, version 0.6 (file HyDragon v1.4.0.jar)
- Alec's Tamework! 5.0.0 or later (required)
- Beacon - Mod Telemetry & Stats and Patchwork (required)
- Optional: Alec's Nametags! to name your dragons
How to install it
- Open the HyDragon page on CurseForge and click Install: the CurseForge app also installs its dependencies. If you'd rather do it manually, download HyDragon v1.4.0.jar from the Files tab (the file tagged 0.6).
- Also download Alec's Tamework (5.0.0 or later), Beacon and Patchwork from their CurseForge pages.
- Copy the files as is, without unzipping them, into your mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
- Open Hytale, right-click the world, tick HyDragon and its dependencies in the mod list and save the world settings.
- On a dedicated server, put all the files in the server's mods folder and restart it.
- In-game, gather draconic essences to craft draconic stones and capture a dragon; then summon it with the dragon flute.

Common problems
Can you fly with the dragons?
Yes, with the winged forms: you ride them and use their attacks from the saddle. Aerial combat is one of the mod's main new features.
Will it work on Update 7?
The 1.4.0 changelog states compatibility with the 0.7.0-pre.4 prerelease without dropping Update 6. Make sure Alec's Tamework is updated too.
What happens if my dragon falls in combat?
The dragon horn restores fallen companions, and you can summon them again with the dragon flute.
Why does it need so many mods?
It uses Alec's Tamework's taming system, Patchwork to patch assets without conflicts and Beacon, the same author's stats library. The CurseForge app installs them automatically.
