What this mod does

Alec’s Animal Husbandry! turns Hytale’s animals into persistent livestock and companions. You can tame them, breed them, care for them, name them, give them orders and take them into combat, and each one keeps its traits and progress.

Which animals

Almost all of the base game’s: livestock (cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, horses, camels…), neutral wildlife (deer, moose, penguins, turtles…), small critters (frogs, squirrels, mice…) and predators like bears, wolves, tigers, raptors or spiders.

How to tame them

  • Livestock and wildlife: by feeding them their favorite food.
  • Beasts: bring their health below 20%, knock them out with arrows or tranquilizer potions and feed them while they’re unconscious.

Care and progress

Animals have hunger, thirst and happiness; feeders help keep them in check. When happiness is high they breed on their own and the offspring inherit traits from their parents. They gain experience as you care for them, breed them and fight. With the flute you give them orders (follow, wait, go home, defend, attack), and with the Soul Lantern you store them without losing their name, look or traits.

Settings

With /tw settings you pick a preset (full, easier with no starvation damage, or simple with just taming and breeding), and with /tw config you fine-tune every detail. It pairs with Alec’s Cats! and Celly’s Wildlife Skins.

Update (Oct 12, 2026): with Update 7 (0.7) now out, the author has already released a compatible file: version 4.0.1 (October 9, 2026). What’s described on this page was tested with the previous version; check the author’s changelog in case anything has changed.

Highlights and things to keep in mind

  • Covers almost every animal in the game, including combat beasts
  • Breeding with trait inheritance and level-based progress
  • Presets for more or less demanding play
Keep in mind
  • Needs four additional mods and specific Tamework versions
  • Includes telemetry (can be turned off)
  • Updated very often: keep the dependencies up to date too

Requirements

  • Hytale (Early Access) 0.6.7 or later (Update 6) for version 3.3.1

  • Beacon, Celly's Avian Skins and Patchwork (required dependencies on CurseForge)
  • Incompatible with Deer!, HyTame - Animal Breeding and More Mounts

How to install it

  1. Open the Alec's Animal Husbandry! page on CurseForge and click Install with the CurseForge app so it also downloads the dependencies.
  2. If you do it manually, download the mod, Alec's Tamework!, Beacon, Celly's Avian Skins and Patchwork from their Files tabs.
  3. Copy all the files into the mods folder: on Windows %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
  4. Remove HyTame, Deer! or More Mounts if you had them, because they're incompatible.
  5. In Hytale, right-click the world, check all the mods in the list and save the world settings (or install them in the server's mods folder and restart it).
  6. In game, use /tw settings to choose how demanding animal care is.

Common problems

The mod won't load

Check that you have Alec's Tamework! 4.3.0 or higher (but not 5.x) and the other three dependencies: Beacon, Celly's Avian Skins and Patchwork.

My animals are starving

Use the right food or feeders, or switch to the Easier or Simple preset with /tw settings.

Does it collect data?

Yes, it uses anonymous telemetry (errors, performance and usage) through Beacon. You can turn it off in /tw settings.

I already had tamed animals

According to the author, previously tamed animals move over to the Tamework system the first time you interact with them.
