The Goblin Lab is the heart of Hytale’s Chapter I. It’s the goblin laboratory that Update 7 (version 0.7) adds to the Forgotten Temple. Inside you’ll find the goblin workbench (Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench), the machines you repair to unlock recipes, the console that extends breaches and, since patch 0.7.2, the backpack upgrade. Here’s what’s in the lab, what each repair costs according to the most reliable data, and what the patches have changed.
Names are given in English, as they appear in the game. If you’re missing context on the chapter, start with our Hytale Update 7 guide.
What the Goblin Lab is and where to find it
The Goblin Lab is a goblin-style building inside the Forgotten Temple, to the left of the memory shrine, the Heart of Orbis. According to the official patch notes, exploring it is what unlocks the chapter’s content. If you haven’t reached the temple yet, we explain how in Hytale zones and biomes.
What you’ll find inside:
- Goblin Power Generator: the first machine you need to repair. While it’s broken, lasers block the lab door.
- Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench, against the right wall: this is where you craft the gadgets, the runes and the upgraded backpack.
- Boiler, Engine and Compressor: three machines next to the workbench that you repair to unlock more recipes.
- Goblin Breach Console: upgrades how long you can stay inside each breach.
Step one: repair the Goblin Power Generator
Repairing the generator costs 10 Scraps as of October 20, 2026, on version 0.7.2. It’s the only machine cost all sources agree on, but, like every recipe in the chapter, it may change with patches.
Repairing it does three things:
- The lasers shut off and you can enter the lab.
- The Goblin Breach Console activates.
- Breaches start opening in the world, with a «BREACH IN PROGRESS» warning, a yellow energy beam and the breach marked on the map. According to a server host’s guide, there’s a chance of a breach every 30 minutes.
So where do you get those first 10 Scraps? According to the official notes, the first breaches appear after a few nights, or sooner if you investigate the disturbance at the Forgotten Temple. Inside, mine the Shiny Scrap Piles with a copper pickaxe or better, and head back to the temple with what you need.
Where to get more Scraps
Scraps are the chapter’s currency: you’ll need them for almost everything. These amounts come from a server host’s guide dated October 13, so treat them as approximate:
| Source | Scraps |
|---|---|
| Burner, Lobber and Scrapper goblins | 1 to 3 |
| Guardian and Miner goblins | 3 to 5 |
| Goblin Feastmaster (The Deepworks boss) | 20 to 30 |
| Goblin Cache | 14 to 20 |
| Hollow Ancient Chest | 4 to 8 |
| Tiered chests | 6 to 40 |
| Veilbound Coffer (wave chest) | 20 to 120 |
The machines: Boiler, Engine and Compressor
There are three broken machines next to the workbench. Each repair unlocks new recipes at the Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench. The problem is that their costs don’t match across sources and seem to have changed after October 12 without being mentioned in the official notes. Here’s what can be considered reliable as of October 20, 2026 (version 0.7.2); everything may change with patches:
| Machine | Repair cost | What it unlocks | Reliability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goblin Power Generator | 10 Scraps | The lab, the console and the breaches | Confirmed |
| Boiler | 2 Spider Silk and 2 to 4 Dubious Assembly; the community wiki adds 15 Scraps | More workbench recipes; the exact list differs between sources | Not confirmed |
| Engine | Sources give completely different recipes | More workbench recipes; the exact list differs between sources | Not confirmed |
| Compressor | According to the wiki and other databases: 75 Scraps, 3 Voidheart, 1 or 2 Bundled Treasure and other materials that vary by source | Backpack Upgrade II (official); the rest, unconfirmed | Medium |
If you’re following a guide published on launch day, heads up: it said the Compressor cost 60 Scraps and 1 Bundled Treasure. The latest data from the community wiki (October 18) and other databases (October 19) already include the 3 Voidhearts. Before you start farming, check the cost in your own save.
Voidhearts are now the hardest thing to gather. We explain how to get them in 0.7 in our Voidheart guide.
The Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench (goblin workbench)
It’s the only workbench that crafts the chapter’s gadgets and runes. No gadget drops as loot; the only exception is Hook Anchors, which also appear already placed on structures in The Guttering Hollows.
- Gadgets: Scrap Drill, Scrap Glider, Rocket Boots, Hookshot and Hook Anchors, Spyglass, Bangstick and Goblin Repair Kit. You’ll find their recipes in Hytale goblin gadgets.
- Runes: in the Runestones tab. Ability runes cost 2 Runestone Shards and modifiers cost 1. Where shards drop is covered in our Runestone Shards guide.
- Backpack Upgrade II: since 0.7.2, after repairing the Compressor.
Ingredients you’ll need
Almost every workbench recipe reuses the same intermediate materials. Amounts as of October 20, 2026 (version 0.7.2); they may change with patches:
- Dubious Assembly: crafted with 25 Scraps and 2 Void Crystal Shards. On launch day it took 1 shard; now it takes 2. According to the wiki, the Goblin Feastmaster drops 2 to 3.
- Boom Powder: 2 Small Boomshroom and 1 Charcoal.
- Voidtaken Grizzly Hide: always dropped by the hunt bear, which requires a Voidheart as bait.
- Enkindled Sigil: according to the wiki, it drops from Hollow Ancient Chests with a 20% chance.
- Bundled Treasure: according to a community database, it drops from tier 3 to 5 chests in The Guttering Hollows, with a 7.5%, 15% and 25% chance. The Feastmaster also drops 2 to 3.
Where Void Crystal Shards drop
You need them for the Dubious Assembly and for the breach console. According to community guides, which largely agree with each other:
| Source | Void Crystal Shards |
|---|---|
| Void Crystal, which appears during «Void Surges» | 1 to 10 |
| Veilbound Coffer | 1 to 8 |
| Tier 3 to 5 chests, in cellars under houses with thorny bushes | 1 to 5 |
| Void Fiend | 2 to 3 |
| Revenant Guardian | 1 to 2 |
| Purple crystal formations | About 3 |
Backpack Upgrade II: the backpack since 0.7.2
It’s the most searched-for change in patch 0.7.2. According to the official notes, the Backpack Upgrade II is now crafted at the Goblin Tinkerer’s Workbench after repairing the Compressor. It costs 150 Scraps, 10 Spider Silk and 1 Voidtaken Grizzly Hide (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2; may change with patches). On top of that, you no longer need to have restored 100 memories.
Before the patch, the recipe called for 1 Voidheart, 8 Adamantite and 16 Storm Leather. According to the community wiki, the upgrade adds 9 backpack slots, and with both upgrades you reach 27.
To craft it, in order, with costs (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2):
- Repair the Compressor. According to the wiki and other databases, it takes 3 Voidhearts, among other things.
- Do a Voidtaken Grizzly hunt for the hide; it’ll cost you another Voidheart. We walk you through it step by step in our Voidheart guide.
- Gather 150 Scraps and 10 Spider Silk and craft it at the workbench.
By our count, that’s about 4 Voidhearts in total. If you need more space in the meantime, the Extended Backpacks mod expands what you can carry. Check first that it has a version for 0.7, as we explain in how to install mods in Hytale.
The Forgotten Temple teleporters (0.7.1)
Patch 0.7.1 evened out the cost of the two teleporters in the Forgotten Temple. Both are now repaired with 25 Scraps and 1 Dubious Assembly (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2; may change with patches). They also make a sound now when you use them. The notes don’t say where each one takes you, so you’ll find out in your own save. The rest of the patch is covered in Hytale 0.7.1 and 0.7.2.
The Goblin Breach Console: more time in the breach
The console activates when you repair the generator. Without upgrades, a breach lasts 10 minutes, and with every upgrade it reaches 14 minutes. Costs as of October 20, 2026 (version 0.7.2), subject to change with patches:
| Level | Cost | Total time |
|---|---|---|
| No upgrades | — | 10 min |
| Level 1 | 10 Scraps and 2 Void Crystal Shards, according to community guides | 12 min |
| Level 2 | Unconfirmed: between 8 and 30 Void Crystal Shards and between 2 and 5 Voidhearts, depending on the source | 13 min |
| Level 3 | We haven’t found a reliable source | 14 min |
You can also gain time inside the breach, according to community guides: each Hourglass Relic adds about 1 minute, and destroying the large Void anomalies also extends your stay. Keep in mind that the longer you stay, the more pressure the Void puts on you. We cover what happens minute by minute in our guide to The Deepworks and the Goblin Breach.
What order to do everything in
Our suggestion, based on the costs above (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2), which may change with patches:
- Generator as soon as you have 10 Scraps: without it, there’s nothing.
- Console level 1: it’s cheap and gives you 2 extra minutes in every breach.
- Boiler and Engine, as the materials come in. Check in-game what they ask for before farming.
- Compressor once you have 3 Voidhearts, and the backpack right after.
- Teleporters when you have Scraps and Dubious Assembly to spare.
