The Voidheart is a Void material in Hytale, and Update 7 (version 0.7) has completely changed how you get it. You no longer farm it at night in the normal world: now it mostly drops inside goblin breaches and The Deepworks. Here’s where to get it in version 0.7.2, how the Voidtaken Grizzly hunt (which requires one as bait) works step by step, and what it’s worth spending it on.
Item, enemy and location names are given in English, as they appear in the game. For the rest of the chapter’s new content, check out our Hytale Update 7 guide.
What the Voidheart is
The Voidheart is a material tied to Void creatures. It isn’t new in 0.7: it already existed in January 2026 and was used to craft high-tier gear and upgrade workbenches. What changed with Chapter I is where it comes from and what you need it for. It now opens several doors in the chapter: the hunts in The Guttering Hollows, The Deepworks key and the repair of one of the Goblin Lab machines.
Don’t confuse it with Void Crystal Shards, which many goblin recipes call for, or with Essence of the Void, which the hunt bear drops.
What changed in 0.7: the January guides are outdated
If you search for how to get Voidheart in Hytale, many of the top results are guides from January 2026. They tell you to go out at night and hunt Void creatures in the normal world. That no longer works in 0.7, because of two changes:
- Void creatures no longer spawn at night in the Echo of Orbis, the normal world. The official Update 7 patch notes say so.
- They drop Voidheart less often. The change arrived in test build 0.7.0-pre.5, and it’s noted by the community wiki and several guides published after launch.
On top of that, hunts on the other side of a breach require a Voidheart. It goes from being just a crafting material to also being a consumable you’ll spend often. We haven’t found any reliable source that places it in normal world chests.
How to get Voidheart in 0.7
Every reliable source we’ve found is inside the chapter’s content: The Guttering Hollows, which you reach by crossing a Goblin Breach, and The Deepworks.
| Source | What it is | Voidhearts |
|---|---|---|
| Void Fiend | Void creature in The Guttering Hollows | 1, always |
| Gobliterator | Final boss of The Deepworks | 1, always |
| Void Eye | Void creature | 1, with a 5% chance |
| Veilbound Coffer | Wave event chest, from wave 3 to 5 | 1 to 3, according to the community wiki |
This is loot data as of October 20, 2026, on version 0.7.2, and it may change with patches. The wiki itself warns that its table might not fully reflect the pre.5 nerf, so treat the drop chances as approximate. Some guides say large Void Crystals drop Voidheart and others say they no longer do: it isn’t confirmed, so don’t count on them.
Where farming it pays off most
What follows is our own analysis based on that loot data:
- Hunt every Void Fiend in each breach. It’s the only repeatable source that always drops it. Each one also gives 2 Runestone Shards and several Void Crystal Shards, so it’s never wasted time. We explain it in our Runestone Shards guide.
- Extend the breach. According to a community database, if you extend the time with the Goblin Breach Console, a Void storm with a Void Fiend arrives around minute 13. In practice, more time means another shot at a Voidheart. The console upgrades are in our Goblin Lab guide.
- Repeat The Deepworks if it’s worth it to you. The Gobliterator drops 1 guaranteed Voidheart, plus 4 Runestone Shards. But the key to get in costs 1 Voidheart, and we haven’t been able to confirm whether it’s consumed on use. If it is, repeating the dungeon doesn’t net you any Voidheart, though you do get shards and Scraps.
The Voidtaken Grizzly hunt, step by step
Hunts are the predator events in The Guttering Hollows. The one you care about most is the Voidtaken Grizzly hunt, because its hide is an ingredient in several gadgets and in the backpack upgrade. To make it appear you have to offer a Voidheart: no Voidheart, no bear. Here’s how it works, according to community guides updated after launch:
- Enter a breach and wait about 2 minutes. The event doesn’t start the moment you arrive.
- Look for a purple pillar on the horizon. Turn slowly; with the Spyglass it’s much easier. Once you spot it, a marker appears on the map. The pillar lasts about 2 minutes, but the marker stays.
- Head to the pillar until the game tells you that you’ve discovered the predator. Guides refer to the event as «Predator Sighted» or «Predator Spotted».
- Find the bear trap nearby (Voidheart Bear Trap) and offer it the Voidheart.
- Kill the bear. It has 850 health. It drops 1 Voidtaken Grizzly Hide, guaranteed, and 6 to 10 Essence of the Void.
What you should know before hunting
- There’s only one bear per breach, in a random spot. If you need several hides, that’s several breaches.
- The bear doesn’t give you the Voidheart back. According to the community wiki, it stopped dropping it in pre.5 and now drops Essence of the Void. Each hide costs you a Voidheart.
- Watch the clock. A breach lasts 10 minutes by default. Between the initial wait, finding the pillar and the fight, the hunt eats up a good chunk of it. According to the wiki, some predator events require the Spyglass to progress, so always bring it.
- Prepare for the fight. 850 health is a lot for an enemy that isn’t a boss. Bring your best repaired weapon and two equipped runes; you’ll find ideas in our Hytale runes guide.
How many hides (and Voidhearts) you need
Hides required by current recipes (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2). The chapter’s recipes already changed once after launch and may change again with patches: the Scrap Glider took 1 hide on day one and now takes 2.
| Item | Hides |
|---|---|
| Scrap Glider | 2 |
| Rocket Boots | 1 |
| Backpack Upgrade II | 1 |
| Total | 4 hides: 4 hunts and 4 Voidhearts |
The total is our own calculation. You’ll find the full gadget recipes in Hytale goblin gadgets.
What the Voidheart is used for
These are its confirmed uses, with amounts as of October 20, 2026 (version 0.7.2). Keep in mind they may change with any patch.
| Use | Voidhearts | Rest of the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Bait for the Voidtaken Grizzly hunt | 1 per hunt | — |
| Fragment: Orbis – The Deepworks key | 1 | 30 Scraps and 5 Void Crystal Shards |
| Repairing the Goblin Lab Compressor | 3, according to the wiki and other community databases | About 75 Scraps and other chapter materials; the details vary by source |
| Mithril weapons | 1 per weapon | Crafted at the tier 3 Blacksmith’s Anvil |
| Armorer’s Workbench upgrade to tier 3 | 3 | 25 Thorium, 25 Cobalt, 40 Shadoweave Scraps and 40 Sturdy Chitin |
The Deepworks key
To enter the game’s first dungeon you need the Fragment: Orbis – The Deepworks key. Its recipe, as of October 20, 2026 on version 0.7.2, is 1 Voidheart, 30 Scraps and 5 Void Crystal Shards; it may change with patches. The key is used on an Ancient Gateway, the same type of portal that opens The Guttering Hollows with its own key.
It isn’t confirmed which Goblin Lab machine unlocks this recipe: the community wiki ties it to the Compressor and some launch-day guides to the Engine. What awaits you inside is covered in our guide to The Deepworks.
Mithril weapons
Each Mithril weapon takes 1 Voidheart and is crafted at the tier 3 Blacksmith’s Anvil (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2; may change with patches). There are five: Battleaxe, Shortbow, Daggers, Mace and Sword. We haven’t been able to verify the rest of each one’s ingredients on 0.7.2, so we’re not listing them.
Repairing the Compressor
The Compressor is one of the Goblin Lab machines. The only official information about it is that, since patch 0.7.2, repairing it unlocks the Backpack Upgrade II. According to the wiki and other community databases with data from October 18 and 19, the repair costs 3 Voidhearts and about 75 Scraps, plus other materials that vary by source (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2). Launch-day guides gave a very different cost with no Voidheart, so save up 3 before you start. We go into detail in our Goblin Lab guide.
What no longer takes a Voidheart
The Backpack Upgrade II used to take 1 Voidheart, 8 Adamantite and 16 Storm Leather. Since patch 0.7.2, according to the official notes, it costs 150 Scraps, 10 Spider Silk and 1 Voidtaken Grizzly Hide (as of October 20, 2026; it may change again). Heads up: the hide comes from a hunt, so in practice it still costs a Voidheart.
Some guides list Voidhearts in the Engine repair or in the second Goblin Breach Console upgrade, between 2 and 5 depending on the source. The numbers don’t match, so it isn’t confirmed.
What to spend it on first
This is our suggested order, not a game rule:
- The Deepworks key. The Gobliterator gives you a Voidheart back at the end, and it also drops shards and moves the chapter forward.
- The Compressor. It unlocks the upgraded backpack, which makes a difference in every breach.
- The hunts. First the hide for the backpack and the one for the Rocket Boots; then the two for the glider.
- Mithril weapons and the Armorer’s Workbench, once the chapter no longer needs any more.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get Voidheart in Hytale 0.7?
By killing Void Fiends in The Guttering Hollows, which always drop it, and beating the Gobliterator in The Deepworks. It can also drop from the Void Eye (5%) and, according to the community wiki, from the wave 3 to 5 chests.
Why can’t I find Voidheart at night anymore?
Because in 0.7 Void creatures no longer spawn at night in the normal world and, on top of that, they drop Voidheart less often. The January 2026 guides that recommend it are outdated.
How many Voidhearts do I need for Chapter I?
By our count, based on recipes as of October 20, 2026 (version 0.7.2): 1 for The Deepworks key, 3 for the Compressor and 4 for the hide hunts. That’s 8 in total, not counting Mithril weapons or the Armorer’s Workbench. It may change with patches.
Does the Voidtaken Grizzly drop Voidheart?
No. According to the community wiki, it stopped dropping it in 0.7.0-pre.5. Now it drops its hide and 6 to 10 Essence of the Void.
