The Deepworks is Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon, and it arrives with Update 7, «Chapter I: Out of the Breach». It’s played within the goblin chapter: you start in the Forgotten Temple, open the goblin breaches, cross The Guttering Hollows and end up facing the Gobliterator, the game’s first major multi-phase boss. Here’s the full route and how to prepare with the changes in version 0.7.
Location, boss and item names are given in English, as they appear in the official patch notes. For a summary of the whole update, check out our Hytale Update 7 guide.
How to start Chapter I
The chapter works in new Exploration worlds and in the ones you already had. You don’t need to start from scratch, but back up your world before opening it in 0.7: it updates automatically the first time you load it.
- Reach the Forgotten Temple. If you haven’t been there yet, we explain how in Hytale zones and biomes.
- Explore the Goblin Lab. It’s a new area of the temple and it unlocks the chapter’s content.
- Open the Chapter screen. It’s new and shows your objectives and rewards. Use it as your guide: the notes don’t spell out the exact order of each objective.
- Wait for the breaches or investigate. Breaches start appearing in the world (the Echo of Orbis) after a few nights, or sooner if you investigate the disturbance at the Forgotten Temple.
One detail: you can no longer sleep in the bed at the Forgotten Temple. Don’t count on it to get through the night.
The Goblin Breach
The Goblin Breach is a temporary portal that opens in the world. The notes warn that it arrives «with force»: if you see one opening, back off a bit. When you cross it you reach an unstable fragment of Orbis overrun by goblins, with the Void pressing in from the edges.
The time limit
- Your time is limited. The Void eventually pushes you out of the fragment.
- You can earn more time in two ways: fighting the Void inside the breach and upgrading the Goblin Breach Console in the Goblin Lab.
- The fragment changes every time. It regenerates on every entry, so memorizing a map won’t help.
Our recommendation: don’t go in blind. Have your inventory ready before you cross, because every minute you spend sorting things is breach time lost. And upgrade the console as soon as you can: it’s the only permanent time upgrade the notes mention.
The command to leave portal worlds also changes: /leave becomes /portal leave, and /portal replaces /fragment. You’ll find them in Hytale commands.
How long the Goblin Breach lasts: 10 to 14 minutes
The official notes didn’t give the number, but guides published after launch agree: a breach lasts 10 minutes without upgrades and up to 14 minutes with all three Goblin Breach Console upgrades. Level 1 brings the breach to 12 minutes and, according to community guides, costs 10 Scraps and 2 Void Crystal Shards (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2); it may change with patches. Levels 2 (13 minutes) and 3 (14 minutes) have unconfirmed costs. We go into detail in our Goblin Lab guide.
You can also gain time inside the breach, according to the same guides: each Hourglass Relic adds about 1 minute, and destroying the large Void anomalies also extends your stay.
The breach minute by minute
According to a community database with data from October 19:
| Minute | What happens |
|---|---|
| 2:00 | First Void wave |
| 4:00 | Second wave |
| 6:30 | Third wave |
| 9:00 | Fourth wave |
| 10:00 | The Veil closes |
| 11:30 | Heavy Void, only if you’ve extended the time |
| 13:00 | Void storm with a Void Fiend, only if you’ve extended the time |
Our take: anything that isn’t urgent, like mining scrap or opening chests, is best done in the first two minutes. And if you’ve extended the time, the minute-13 Void Fiend is worth it: it drops 1 Voidheart and 2 Runestone Shards.
Voidheart and hunts: how you get them now
Further down we say the notes didn’t explain how to get Voidheart in 0.7. Now we know: it mostly drops from the Void Fiends in The Guttering Hollows, which always drop it, and from the Gobliterator. The January guides that send you hunting at night are outdated. You’ll find every source and the Voidtaken Grizzly hunt step by step in our Voidheart guide.
The Guttering Hollows
The Guttering Hollows is the chapter’s new biome. What you’ll find there:
- Predators you can track and trap.
- Void killers.
- Trapped chests that release waves of enemies when you open them.
- Puzzles.
Hunts and Voidheart
To do a hunt on the other side of a breach you need a Voidheart. Hunting spots have their own icon on the map, so locate them before you set out. The Voidheart isn’t a new item in 0.7: it already existed. That said, keep in mind that in 0.7 Void creatures no longer spawn at night in the Echo of Orbis, so the old methods for getting it at night may not work. The notes don’t explain how you get it now.
Goblins vs. the Void
The goblin faction has been completely reworked: there are goblins of many shapes and sizes. They fear the Void and flee from its creatures unless they’re in a group, and Void creatures are hostile to goblins. This can work in your favor: if a lone goblin sees Void creatures, it tends to run away, and if the two factions clash, they fight each other. Take this as a tactical suggestion of ours, not an official rule.
Another useful change: in the chapter’s areas, non-elite enemies flinch when they take hits. Striking first and chaining hits gives you an edge against regular goblins. You’ll find more creatures in Hytale bosses and creatures.
The Deepworks: the dungeon
The Deepworks is Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon. According to the notes, it has:
- Challenge rooms.
- Goblin hordes.
- Flames and debris to dodge.
- Puzzles.
- Checkpoints.
Checkpoints are key: if you die, you don’t start over from the beginning. Even so, manage your potions as if there weren’t any, because the bosses are at the end. The notes don’t say exactly where the entrance is; follow the objectives on the Chapter screen.
Against the hordes, crowd-control runes work well. Chain Hook pulls enemies together and Ground Slam launches them into the air; we break it down in our Hytale runes guide. For the flames and debris, mobility helps: the Rocket Boots give you a double jump, and we explain them in Hytale goblin gadgets.
How to enter The Deepworks (0.7.2)
Now we know how to get in. You need the Fragment: Orbis – The Deepworks key and you use it on an Ancient Gateway. Recipes (as of October 20, 2026, version 0.7.2), subject to change with patches:
| Item | Recipe |
|---|---|
| Fragment: Orbis – The Deepworks | 1 Voidheart, 30 Scraps and 5 Void Crystal Shards |
| Ancient Gateway (at the Arcanist’s Workbench, after restoring 100 memories) | 30 Cobblestone, 10 Thorium Ingot, 10 Essence of Life and 10 Essence of the Void |
Two things are still unconfirmed. First, which Goblin Lab machine unlocks the key recipe: the community wiki ties it to the Compressor and some launch-day guides to the Engine. Second, whether the key is consumed when you use it. The most expensive part of the recipe is the Voidheart; we explain how to get it in 0.7 in our Voidheart guide.
If you die inside the dungeon
According to a community database, dying in The Deepworks doesn’t make you lose items or durability. The dungeon has 10 checkpoints, a generator room with 2 levers, the Feastmaster’s arena and the Gobliterator’s.
The bosses of The Deepworks
Elite Goblin Feastmaster
The Elite Goblin Feastmaster is the first boss. The notes describe him as «more agile than he looks». Since he’s elite, don’t count on him flinching from your hits like regular goblins: the notes only guarantee that for non-elite enemies.
- Don’t stand still casting abilities: casting a rune slows you down by 40% for a moment.
- If you use Enrage, remember you take 20% more damage for 8 s. Against an agile boss, only use it when you have him under control.
Gobliterator
The Gobliterator (a play on «goblin» and «obliterate») is the dungeon’s final boss and Hytale’s first major multi-phase boss fight. In a phased fight, what worked for you at the start might not work at the end. Save resources for the last phases: don’t burn all your potions in the first one.
Hard mode
To the left of the entrance to the boss room there’s a «sinister-looking» button. Pressing it activates a harder mode. The notes don’t say what changes or whether it gives better rewards, so try it once you’ve already cleared the dungeon on normal mode.
What The Deepworks bosses drop
The notes didn’t give the bosses’ loot. This is what community databases list as of October 20, 2026; it may change with patches.
Elite Goblin Feastmaster
- Health and damage: 1,950 health and hits of 55 to 70, according to the community wiki.
- Loot: 2 to 3 Dubious Assembly and 2 to 3 Bundled Treasure, according to the wiki, and 20 to 30 Scraps, according to a server host’s guide. These are ingredients you’ll use a lot at the goblin workbench.
- Runestone Shards: it isn’t confirmed that he drops them. A launch-day guide said so, but the wiki doesn’t list them.
Gobliterator
- 4 Runestone Shards, always. It’s the chapter’s biggest source of shards; you’ll find the others in our Runestone Shards guide.
- 1 Voidheart, always.
- Gobliterator Core: a legendary trophy. According to a community database, salvaging it gives 40 Scraps, 2 Dubious Assembly and 1 cheese.
The Scrap Arcanist and Junk Pilot cosmetics
The notes say they unlock by playing the chapter, and several guides talk about the Chapter I objectives. A community database specifies that you get them by defeating the Gobliterator: you just need to be in the fight when it goes down, and the reward goes to your account, not your inventory. According to that same source, the Junk Pilot has 5 pieces and the Scrap Arcanist has 7.
Is hard mode worth it?
According to that database, hard mode doesn’t give any extra cosmetic and the Gobliterator drops the same 4 shards. Another source mentions special shards in hard mode, but it isn’t confirmed. For now, play it for the challenge, not the loot.
How to prepare: tips based on the 0.7 changes
Update 7 changes potions, food and weapons. Here’s what you should keep in mind before heading down into The Deepworks.
Potions
- Shared cooldown: all health potions share a 15 s cooldown, and stamina potions share 30 s. Carrying different health potions doesn’t let you drink them back to back.
- Drink early, not at the last second. With a 15 s wait between health potions, if you cut it too close you won’t be able to chain two.
- They stack to 10. Health, stamina and energy potions fit up to 10 per slot: that frees up space for loot.
- Taking damage no longer interrupts eating or drinking.
Food
- Eating takes 2.5 s and slows you down by 25% (previously 60%).
- Bread, popcorn and cheese heal 5% (previously 15%). They no longer work as emergency healing.
- Cooked food buffs last 6 minutes. Eat right before entering the boss room.
- Raw fruit, vegetables and crops give a small regeneration effect for 1 minute.
Weapons
- The crossbow hits weaker. The Iron Crossbow combo drops from 27 to 13. On the Ancient Steel Crossbow, the normal attack goes from 16 to 10.5, the combo from 42 to 14 and the signature from 123 to 82. On top of that, attacking with a crossbow slows you down by 50%. If your plan was to clear the dungeon with crossbow bolts, rethink it.
- Melee is faster. Sword, dagger, mace and battleaxe attack about 15% faster. Combined with regular goblins flinching, it’s the most solid option against the hordes.
- Daggers no longer go through walls and the shield no longer cancels attack animations after dealing damage.
- Damage over time can no longer be blocked. Against poison and burning, your shield won’t save you: get out of the way.
Durability and the Goblin Repair Kit
Weapon and tool durability goes up a lot in 0.7. For example, iron weapons go from 120 to 250 and adamantite and Ancient Steel weapons from 180 to 500. Even so, a long dungeon wears things down. The Goblin Repair Kit repairs items without lowering their max durability, unlike the regular kit. Bring it for your main weapon. We compare both ways to repair in how to repair tools in Hytale.
Watch out for one change: breaking blocks with a tool in the utility slot now uses up its durability.
Quick checklist before you go in
- Back up your world if you’re coming from 0.6.
- Health and stamina potions, up to 10 per slot.
- Cooked food for the 6-minute buff.
- A melee weapon as your main; the crossbow as backup.
- Goblin Repair Kit.
- Two runes equipped in the Runebinder’s Lattice: one for damage and one for crowd control.
If you’re hungry for more dungeons
The Deepworks is the first official dungeon, but there are mods that add more. Major Dungeons brings instanced dungeons with their own enemies, bosses and gear. Check that it has a version for 0.7 before installing it; we explain how in how to install mods in Hytale.
