What this mod does
MimicTale fills Orbis with mimics: creatures that look like normal chests, hide and attack when you’re not looking at them. The only clue is that they show up in places where a chest has no business being.
Loot and coins
- They drop ingots, weapons and armor, depending on the type of mimic and the location.
- Many leave mimic coins: copper (75%), iron (50%), silver (25%), gold (20%), thorium (15%) and cobalt (10%). Stronger creatures give more valuable coins.
- You spend the coins with the pet and coin merchants, whose stock keeps changing. They can also be thrown: the more valuable the coin, the more damage it does.
- Many drop their pet form, which can be salvaged for materials. Pets are still in development and the author wants them to eventually work as portable storage.
Benches and slimes
The mimic book bench offers plushies, pets, weapons, tools, armor and blocks; the coin bench is used to craft the higher-tier coins. On top of that, slimes can be tamed and sheared: their gel works as fuel, a throwable weapon, salvage material or fertilizer.
It doesn’t need any other mods. Version 1.6.3 (September 20, 2026) is for Hytale 0.6. With Update 7 (0.7), released October 12, 2026, the author has already published a compatible file: 1.6.4, from October 16, 2026.

Requirements
- Hytale (Early Access) on PC, version 0.6 (file MimicTale-1.6.4.zip)
- No dependencies: it doesn't need any other mods
How to install it
- Open the MimicTale page on CurseForge and click Install to install it with the CurseForge app, or download MimicTale-1.6.4.zip from the Files tab (the file tagged 0.6).
- If you download it manually, copy the file as is, without unzipping it, into your mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
- Open Hytale, right-click the world, tick MimicTale in the mod list and save the world settings.
- On a dedicated server, put the file in the server's mods folder and restart it.
- In-game, be wary of chests in odd places: save your mimic coins for the merchants and craft the mimic book bench.

Common problems
How do I tell a mimic from a chest?
You can't by its looks: they're identical to a normal chest. What gives them away is being in strange places, and they attack when you're not looking at them.
What are mimic coins for?
You spend them with the pet and coin merchants, and you can also throw them as a weapon. Higher-tier coins are crafted at the coin bench.
Do the pets work yet?
They're under construction: for now they can be salvaged for materials.
Is the spawn table reliable?
The author warns that the odds and loot have changed and the published table may be out of date; a new one is in the works.
