What this mod does

Orbis Origins, by Hexvane, lets you choose a species when you start playing. There are over 18 playable species, each with its own stats, resistances, weaknesses and starting items.

How you choose

The first time you enter a world you get the species selector. Right-click it to open an interface with a 3D preview, variants, accessories and stats; when you click Confirm, your choice is saved. The selector is crafted at the Arcane Workbench (Misc category) with 1 emerald and 8 green crystal shards. When you switch species, the previous species’ abilities are removed and the new ones are applied.

Some of the species

  • Kweebec: agile, with more stamina, +15 mana and nature resistance.
  • Trork: much more health and physical resistance (Berserker Rage).
  • Feran, Klops, Goblin, Outlander, Tuluk, Slothian and Saurian, each with its own ability.
  • Undead (zombie or skeleton): immune to poison and weak to fire.
  • Six elemental golems (earth, frost, flame, thunder, sand and igneous steel) and the Orbian, with no advantages or drawbacks.

Servers can create or modify species with JSON files in mods/hexvane_OrbisOrigins/Species/. It requires AbilityAPI, by the same author. Version 2.3.0 (August 27, 2026) is for Hytale 0.6: with Update 7, released October 12, 2026, the author has already published a compatible file: 2.4.0, from October 13, 2026.

Highlights and things to keep in mind

Highlights
  • Over 18 species with variants and accessories
  • Interface with a 3D preview and clear stats
  • Species editable via JSON for servers
Keep in mind
  • You have to install AbilityAPI even though the description presents it as optional
  • The description mentions a "void golem" that doesn't appear in the species list
  • With Update 7 (released October 12, 2026), you'll need to wait for a compatible version

Requirements

Install first: AbilityAPI
  • Hytale (Early Access) on PC, version 0.6 (file OrbisOrigins-2.4.0.jar)
  • AbilityAPI (CurseForge lists it as required; it provides each species' abilities)
  • To craft another selector: Arcane Workbench, 1 emerald and 8 green crystal shards

How to install it

  1. Open the Orbis Origins page on CurseForge and click Install: the CurseForge app also installs AbilityAPI. If you're doing it manually, download OrbisOrigins-2.4.0.jar from the Files tab (the file tagged 0.6) and AbilityAPI from its own page.
  2. Copy the files as is, without unzipping them, into your mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
  3. Open Hytale, right-click the world, tick Orbis Origins and AbilityAPI in the mod list and save the world settings.
  4. On a dedicated server, put the files in the server's mods folder and restart it.
  5. When you enter the world, right-click the species selector, choose a species and variant, and click Confirm.

Common problems

Can I change species later?

Yes: when you pick another one, the previous species' abilities are removed and the new ones are applied instantly. If you've lost the selector, craft it at the Arcane Workbench.

Is AbilityAPI needed?

The description says it's only needed for abilities, but CurseForge's dependencies tab lists it as required. Install it to avoid problems.

Can I disable or create species?

Yes, with JSON files in mods/hexvane_OrbisOrigins/Species/: a matching ID replaces the original species and "enabled": false disables it.

Which species is the strongest?

It depends on your playstyle: the Trork and the earth golem have much more health; the Kweebec and the thunder golem, more mana (+15).
