The must-have plugins for a Hytale server are, in this order: LuckPerms for permissions, CoreProtect and Simple Claims to protect the world, an essentials pack (EliteEssentials or Essentials Plus), economy and shops if your server needs them (PJ Money, Better Shop/Auction/OfferHouse), spark to measure performance and DiscordBridge to connect with your community. They’re all free, and we tested them with their Hytale 0.6 (Update 6) versions. Important notice: Update 7 (0.7) came out on October 12, 2026 and changes the plugin API, so many of them will need updating. Before updating your server, back up your world and check that each plugin has a 0.7 file; we explain how below.
How to install plugins on the server
In Hytale, plugins and mods are installed the same way. According to the official server manual:
- Download the
.jaror.zipfile from the author’s official page (almost all of them are on CurseForge). Don’t unzip it. - With the server shut down, copy it into the
mods/folder, next toconfig.json,permissions.jsonand theuniverse/folder. - Start the server. Most plugins create their config folder on first launch; shut it down, review the
.jsonfiles and start it again.
The server needs Java 25 and at least 4 GB of memory. Players don’t have to install anything to play on your server. A .jar runs code on your machine, so always download it from the official source: on every Holymod mod page we link the author’s verified page. If you don’t have the server set up yet, start with how to create a Hytale server, and for mods in local games, how to install mods in Hytale.
Permissions: LuckPerms
LuckPerms (lucko, 5.5.x beta for Hytale) handles groups, inheritance, ranks, prefixes and suffixes, with a web editor. It’s the foundation for everything else: EliteEssentials, Essentials Plus, Better Shop and spark read its groups and permissions. You download it from luckperms.net, not from CurseForge.
- Start the server once to generate its files.
- Create the admin group with
/lp group admin permission set *and add yourself to it. - Use
/lp editorto create the rest of the ranks from your browser.
Chat formatting isn’t included (its mod page lists mini-chat-formatter as optional for showing prefixes).
Protection and rollback
- CoreProtect (Intelli, 3.0): logs placed and broken blocks, chests, liquids, chat and commands, and lets you roll back damage by a player or in an area.
/co iturns on the inspector. It uses SQLite by default and supports MySQL. It only logs from the moment it’s installed, so add it before you open the server. Give its permissions only to your moderation team. - Simple Claims (Buuz135, 1.0.39): chunk-based protection with groups and allies.
/scclaims or releases land and/scpmanages the group. Known limitation: some interactions, like the hammer, might not be blocked.
On top of that, the official server has its own backups: turn them on with --backup, --backup-dir and --backup-frequency (every 30 minutes by default).
Essentials: homes, warps and teleports
Pick one of these two; they cover the same ground and their commands overlap:
- EliteEssentials (2.0.11, open source): homes,
/spawn,/rtp,/tpa,/back, player warps, kits, mail, economy (/wallet,/pay,/baltop) and an/eeadminpanel. Supports JSON, SQLite or MySQL. It requires server 0.6.1 or later, and on that server versions older than 2.0.11 crash the world: use 2.0.11 or newer. - Essentials Plus (1.20.0): more than 90 commands, an admin shop, full moderation, scheduled announcements and a world border with chunk pregeneration. Modules are turned on in
config.json. Messages in English and German.
If you switch from one to the other, both import data from the other one (EliteEssentials with /eemigration). Back up first.
Economy and shops
- PJ Money (1.2.8): physical coins in your inventory (from copper to prism), a wallet and ATMs. Install it with PJ CoreLib, the library for PJ mods. Several mods (Mob Events, BloodMoon, Champions) accept its coins.
- Better Shop/Auction/OfferHouse (6.0.22): a server shop (
/shop), auctions (/ah) and a request board (/request), with prices that drop based on supply. It detects PJ Money and VaultUnlocked; with no external economy, it stores balances in its own file. Use/economyproviderto check which system it has detected.
If you use the EliteEssentials or Essentials Plus economy, both support VaultUnlocked as a bridge to share balances with other mods.
Performance
- spark (lucko): profiles CPU, memory and slow ticks with
/spark profiler startandstop,/spark tpsand/spark health. Install it before problems show up so you have a baseline to compare against. - Nitrado PerformanceSaver (1.1.2+0.6.1): caps TPS when the server is empty, lowers view distance when TPS or RAM run short, and frees memory when unloading chunks. Works on any host. Heads-up: it publishes one file per exact server version.
- Soft Packets (1.0.6): for home servers with low upload speed. It sends chunks and the map in the background when there’s spare bandwidth. Set
MaxBandwidthto 80% of your upload.
The official manual points to view distance as the biggest RAM hog and recommends a maximum of 12 chunks. Since Update 7, saved view distance is also capped at 32 chunks.
Administration and Discord
- AdminUI (Buuz135, 1.0.8): windows with buttons for the whitelist, bans, mutes, players, warps and backups (
/admin). Per-module permissions, likeAdminUI.ban. - DiscordBridge (26.8.28): two-way chat between the server and a Discord channel, plus commands like
!consoleor!whitelistfrom Discord. It needs the Aspect library and a bot with Message Content Intent. The bot token is secret: don’t share it.
Libraries: only if a mod asks for them
They don’t add anything on their own; you install them because another mod requires them, and they must be on a version compatible with it.
- PJ CoreLib: for PJ mods.
- Patchly: patches JSON without overwriting; Dynamic Seasons and Homesteadin need it.
- Ziggfreed’s CommonLib and Perfect Utils: for MMO Skill Tree and other ziggfreed mods.
- Resource Groups: for Ymmersive Carpentry and Masonry.
- KyuubiSoft Core: custom NPCs, dialogue and shops; the foundation for KyuubiSoft’s achievements and quests.
For a Spanish-language server, keep in mind that since Update 7 the game includes Spanish as an official language, so the fan-made Spanish translation is no longer needed for the base game. If your server is built around parties, add PartyPro.
What order to set them up in
- Clean server and backups turned on.
- LuckPerms: admin, moderator and player groups.
- CoreProtect and Simple Claims, before anyone joins.
- Essentials: spawn, warps, kits and messages.
- Economy and shops, checking the provider with
/economyprovider. - AdminUI and DiscordBridge.
- spark and performance tuning, with real players.
Install them one at a time and restart between each step: if something breaks, you’ll know what caused it. For basic server commands, see Hytale commands.

Update 7 (0.7): what to do with your plugins
Update 7 («Chapter I: Out of the Breach,» version 0.7) came out on October 12, 2026. The official manual is clear: client and server must use exactly the same protocol version, so you’ll have to update the server so players who already have 0.7 can join. The problem is that Update 7 changes the plugin API: for example, ChunkAccessor.performBlockUpdate and WorldChunk.setTicking are gone, and block writes are now done per section with BlockOperations. That’s why plugins compiled for 0.6 may need an update from their author. We tested almost every plugin on this list with 0.6 files; of the ones we mention, Patchly 3.6.2 already declared Update 7 compatibility.
To update without losing your world:
- Back up before anything else:
universe/,config.json,permissions.jsonand the mods’ config folders. This is essential: worlds update automatically the first time they’re loaded on 0.7 and you shouldn’t open them again on 0.6, so that backup is your way back. - Control when it updates. The server checks for new versions every hour; with
AutoApplyModeset toDisabled(or theHYTALE_DISABLE_UPDATESvariable) you decide when to apply it with/update apply --confirm. - Check plugin by plugin. In each one’s Files tab on CurseForge (or on the author’s website, like LuckPerms), look for a file marked for 0.7. Only update the ones that have it.
- Remove the ones that aren’t updated from
mods/and put them back when the author releases the new version. Start with libraries and permissions, because other plugins depend on them. - Test on a copy of the server before opening it to players, and restart after each plugin you add.
- Check where it’s installed. Since Update 7, the server won’t start (exit code 11) if its data would be written inside the launcher’s install folder. Move it to its own folder;
--allow-install-dirforces it, but it’s not recommended. - If something goes wrong, the updater keeps the server’s previous files in
updater/backup/. If you go back to 0.6, also restore the world backup from step 1, not the already converted world.
If you develop plugins, check the official Update 7 notes for modders (Modder-Facing Patch Notes) on hytale.com, which detail the API changes, including the move to per-section block writes with BlockOperations. You’ll find the rest of the chapter’s new features in our Hytale Update 7 guide.
We’ll keep updating the mod pages as authors release their versions. If your players can’t join after updating, check the Hytale server connection error; and if you’re looking for a community, we have a list of Spanish-speaking Hytale servers.
