What this mod does
Soft Packets, by Conczin, tackles a common problem on home-hosted servers: when someone joins, teleports or explores, sending chunks, map data and assets saturates the connection, causing stutters, disconnects or workbenches that don’t respond.
How it works
- It moves the heavy data (assets, chunks and map) to a low-priority queue and splits it into pieces.
- It only sends that data when there’s spare bandwidth, taking each player’s ping and the UDP buffer into account.
- It sorts packets by distance and drops the ones that are already outdated.
- The nearest chunks are always sent, so nobody falls through the world.
Configuration
The file is at mods/Conczin_Soft Packets/config.json. The author recommends mainly adjusting MaxBandwidth, setting it to around 80% of the server’s average upload speed. It does nothing in single-player, because ThrottleLocalConnections is disabled by default.
According to the author, in the worst case it simply doesn’t help. On fast connections it adds little, although it still reorders packets. Version 1.0.6 (September 9, 2026) is updated for Hytale 0.6.4.
This page has been reviewed for Hytale 0.7 (Update 7). With Update 7 (0.7), released October 12, 2026, the author has already published a file for the new version: 1.0.7, from October 15, 2026.

Highlights and things to keep in mind
- Very useful on home servers with a slow upload
- Safe: in the worst case it does nothing
- Open source (GPLv3)
- You need to tune MaxBandwidth to notice the improvement
- DynamicTooltipsLib warns that, with Soft Packets, some items may briefly show as invalid
- Doesn't work in single-player
- With Update 7 (released October 12, 2026), you'll need to wait for a compatible version and update the mod
Requirements
- Hytale 0.7 server (file softpackets-1.0.7.jar)
- No dependencies
- Knowing your connection's upload speed so you can set MaxBandwidth
How to install it
- Download softpackets-1.0.7.jar from the Files tab of Soft Packets on CurseForge (the file tagged 0.6), or click Install to use the CurseForge app.
- For a dedicated server, stop it and copy the file as is, without unzipping it, into the server's mods folder; then start it again.
- For a single-player world, copy it to %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods and enable it in the world settings (right-click the world, mod list).
- Open mods/Conczin_Soft Packets/config.json, set MaxBandwidth to roughly 80% of your average upload speed and restart the server.

Common problems
Is it useful if I play solo?
No: it does nothing in single-player, because the ThrottleLocalConnections option is disabled by default. It's designed for home servers and players on slow connections.
Can it make anything worse?
The author says that in the worst case it simply doesn't help. With very low MinBandwidth values, visual glitches can appear.
What else can I do about network lag?
The author suggests lowering MaxViewRadius in the server config, reducing the map radius with /worldmap viewradius set and lowering the world TPS with /world tps.
