What this mod does
Increased Road Speed Limit is a mod by madman for anyone tired of American Truck Simulator’s low limits. It raises the allowed speed in cities, on highways and in slow zones, so you get there sooner without getting fined. It has over 22,000 subscribers on Steam Workshop.
What it changes
- A flat 40 mph (64 km/h) limit in cities.
- Between 80 and 90 mph (128 to 145 km/h) outside cities.
- A flat 30 mph (48 km/h) at weigh stations and in slow zones.
- With the Special Transport DLC, the special transport maximum goes up from 40 to 65 mph, unless a sign shows a lower limit.
Version and compatibility
The author’s description lists versions 1.53 to 1.61 as compatible, and the latest update is from September 14, 2026. It’s designed for the base map and map DLCs; with map mods it may or may not work, and the author doesn’t support them. The first load after enabling it takes longer. It’s about 19 MB.
Limitations
The game’s speed limiter may still hold you back, World of Trucks contracts stay at 65 mph and escort vehicles don’t go any faster. If you play with traffic offenses turned off, the mod won’t do anything for you.

How to install it
- Open the “Increased Road Speed Limit” page on Steam Workshop and click “Subscribe.”
- Launch American Truck Simulator and wait for Steam to finish the download.
- Go to your profile's Mod Manager and enable the mod.
- Load your save and be patient: the first load takes longer while the road cache updates.
- Check the speed limiter in the options if your truck won't go past a certain speed.
Common problems
Why can't I go over 65 mph?
It may be the speed limiter in the options or a World of Trucks contract, which stays at 65 mph.
Does it work with map mods?
It might or might not; the author only supports the base map and map DLCs.
Do escorts go faster?
No, the mod doesn't raise escort vehicles' speed.
