What this mod does

Newer License Plates is a mod by hondacivic that brings American Truck Simulator’s license plates up to date. It replaces the plates of the 48 contiguous states of the US with the designs used in 2025.

Examples of changes

  • California: adds “DMV.CA.GOV” at the bottom and the registration stickers.
  • Pennsylvania: adds the keystone logo.
  • New York: replaces the orange 2011–2020 plate with the 2021-onward “Excelsior” plate.
  • Montana: uses the blue plate in use since 2010.
  • Illinois: switches to the 2017-onward design.

It also includes passenger car plates for Ontario and Quebec, and truck, trailer and police plates for several states. Since version 1.3 it includes CaptainDiabeto’s State License Plates Fix mod, and CaptainDiabeto helps with the updates.

Compatibility

It doesn’t need any maps, though it works with any map. The author asks you to give it high priority in the Mod Manager. On TruckyMods, version 1.4.1, from August 30, 2026, is listed as “all game versions,” with no specific version; 1.4 says it’s compatible with current ATS versions.

The author has paused development while working on a New York map.

How to install it

  1. Open the mod's page on TruckyMods and download the latest version (or use the Trucky client).
  2. Copy the .scs file to Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod.
  3. Enable it in the Mod Manager and move it all the way to the top (high priority).
  4. Check the plates on traffic and on your truck as you cross state lines.
