Reforma ATS 1.61: how to install the Mexico map step by step

How to install Reforma (the Mexico map) on ATS 1.61: the files you need, Mega Resources, DLCs, load order, compatibility patches and common errors.

Updated: 24 Oct 2026

To install Reforma ATS (Team Reforma’s map of Mexico) on version 1.61 you need two files of the same version: the Reforma 3.0.1.161 map and the Reforma Mega Resources 3.0.1.161 package. Both are free and are downloaded from teamreforma.com (Mega Resources is also on Eblem’s verified page on TruckyMods). Copy the files into Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod and enable them in the Mod Manager with Reforma above Mega Resources. You also need the map DLCs the team requires, from New Mexico to Arkansas: if any is missing, the game crashes on load. Patches are only needed if you combine Reforma with other maps. Information updated October 22, 2026.

Which files you need

Reforma isn’t a single file. The map uses a separate resource package (models, signs and vegetation), and each combination with other maps has its own patch. Here’s the full list for ATS 1.61:

File Current version Where to download it Do you need it?
Reforma (the map) 3.0.1.161, for ATS 1.61 teamreforma.com Yes
Reforma Mega Resources 3.0.1.161 (Sep 24, 2026) teamreforma.com or TruckyMods Yes, always
Reforma Other Maps Patch 40.161 (Sep 24, 2026) TruckyMods only Only with Coast to Coast, ProMods Canada, ATS Expansion or CanaMania
Project Better Arizona – Reforma Connection 1.16 (Oct 5, 2026), made for Reforma 3.0.1 TruckyMods Only with Project Better Arizona
MUO/Reforma Compatibility Patch 1.9.2 (ATS 1.58 to 1.61) TruckyMods Only with Urban Traffic Overhaul
Reforma Sierra Nevada 1.19.161 (Sep 24, 2026) TruckyMods Optional: reworks the mountains between California and Nevada

Team Reforma and some of its members offer paid content, but the base map is free and doesn’t need it. Watch out for sites that redistribute Reforma: they usually have old versions, and some hand out the paid version without permission. The Other Maps Patch, for example, has been published only on TruckyMods since 2024, and its author forbids reuploading it.

The DLCs Reforma requires

This is the requirement that fails most often. Reforma connects to the SCS map at the border and uses assets from many states, so it requires almost all of the western and central United States:

  • Included with the base game: Arizona and Nevada (plus California).
  • Paid DLCs: New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and Arkansas.

Texas is especially important in 3.0: the two new crossings, Piedras Negras with Eagle Pass and Nuevo Laredo with Laredo, connect through that DLC. If you’re not sure which ones you have or how much they cost, check the American Truck Simulator DLC list. Don’t confuse the New Mexico DLC (the US state) with Mexico: SCS doesn’t sell any DLC for the country.

How to install Reforma step by step

  1. Check your version. Reforma 3.0.1.161 is for ATS 1.61. If you opted into the 1.62 open beta (available since October 20, 2026), switch back to the stable version on Steam from Properties > Betas.
  2. Download both files. Go to the Downloads section of teamreforma.com and get Reforma and Reforma Mega Resources for version 1.61. The two have to match.
  3. Delete the old ones. If you had an earlier version, remove the old map and Mega Resources files. The author himself asks you to replace all previous files with every update.
  4. Copy the .scs files into Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod.
  5. Enable them. Open ATS, load your profile and, in the Mod Manager, enable Reforma and Reforma Mega Resources. Since 3.0, each file’s image carries a number so you can tell them apart.
  6. Order them. Reforma on top and Mega Resources below. Whatever is higher on the list takes priority.
  7. Use a test profile. Make a copy of your profile or create a new one. If you use your usual save, park the truck in a familiar city before enabling the map.
  8. Drive to the border. Mexico is south of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Look for jobs headed to Mexican cities or cross at one of the border crossings.

Load order for your combination

In the ATS Mod Manager, whatever is higher wins. Team Reforma’s general rule is simple: patches on top, then the maps, and Mega Resources below all the maps that use it. These are the most common combinations, with the order each author gives (top to bottom):

Combination Order from top to bottom
Reforma only Reforma → Reforma Mega Resources
With Sierra Nevada Reforma Sierra Nevada → Reforma → Mega Resources
With Project Better Arizona Better Arizona Reforma Connection → Project Better Arizona → Reforma → Mega Resources
With Urban Traffic Overhaul MUO/Reforma Patch → Sierra Nevada (if you use it) → Reforma → Mega Resources → Urban Traffic Overhaul
With Coast to Coast, ProMods Canada, ATS Expansion or CanaMania Reforma Other Maps Patch, at the very top and above all maps → maps → Mega Resources
With Real MX Graphics Real MX Graphics above the maps and resources whose textures it changes → Reforma → Mega Resources

Two details that save time. The Urban Traffic Overhaul patch isn’t needed if you use Project Better Arizona with Reforma: its author says so, because both touch the same area of Phoenix. And Reforma Esterlon isn’t part of these lists, because it’s a fictional country you play on a separate profile by choosing its map module. When you combine several patches at once, the authors don’t publish a single order: apply each one’s rules and test first on a backup profile. For big combinations, the ATS mod load order guide will help.

Which patch you need in each case

  • Reforma Other Maps Patch (40.161): published by Eblem, from Team Reforma, to combine Reforma with Coast to Coast, ProMods Canada, ATS Expansion and CanaMania (formerly CanaDream). 40.161 adds South Dakota to the UI map and adapts to Reforma’s new parameters. If you only play Reforma, you don’t need it.
  • Project Better Arizona – Reforma Connection (1.16): joins the roads of both maps at the Arizona border. Version 1.16, from October 5, 2026, is made for ATS 1.61 and Reforma 3.0.1, and according to the Better Arizona author it fixes occasional crashes in Phoenix.
  • MUO/Reforma Compatibility Patch (1.9.2): only for the Phoenix area since SCS reworked Southern California. TruckyMods marks it as compatible from 1.58 to 1.61. It doesn’t work with standalone PaZzMod.

What Reforma 3.0.1 brings

Version 3.0 merged into the base map the regions that used to come separately (Pacífico, Noreste and Coahuila), with a revamped Puerto Vallarta and new areas like Monclova, Piedras Negras and Nuevo Laredo. It adds exploration icons, adjusts speed limits, improves ambient sound, and prepares gas stations, rest areas and hotels for the Road Trip car travel mode. Mega Resources 3.0.1.161 adds new Baja California assets and sign templates. If you want to arrive by sea, Vikingo’s ferry collection includes the Mazatlán–Hilo route; since each route requires the maps of both ports to be installed, you also need a map that includes Hilo (Hawaii).

Common problems and how to fix them

Symptom Likely cause What to do
The game crashes when loading the profile A map DLC is missing or Mega Resources is a different version Check the DLC list and make sure the map and resources are both 3.0.1.161
Pink textures or objects that don’t show up Mega Resources is old, missing or in the wrong order Delete the previous version, install the current one and place it below the maps
Dead-end roads in Phoenix or at the Arizona border The connection patch is missing or the order is wrong Install the patch for your combination and check the order in the table
The Mod Manager flags Reforma as an outdated mod You’re on the 1.62 beta Go back to 1.61 or wait for the team’s new version
Esterlon doesn’t show up in your save It’s a standalone map module Create a new profile and choose Esterlon as the map

After every ATS update, repeat the process: new map version, new Mega Resources and, if you use them, new versions of the patches. Until they come out, the safest option is to stay on the previous version of the game.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I download Reforma for ATS?

From the Downloads section of teamreforma.com, the team’s official website. Mega Resources is also on Eblem’s verified page on TruckyMods. Avoid reupload sites: they usually have old versions or unauthorized copies.

What is Reforma Mega Resources and why do I need it?

It’s the resource package (3D models, signs and vegetation) used by Reforma, Sierra Nevada, Esterlon and their patches. On its own it does nothing, but without it the map doesn’t load properly. It has to be the same version as the map and go below it.

Which DLCs do I need to play Reforma?

Besides what comes with the base game: New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and Arkansas. If one is missing, the game will usually crash on load.

Does Reforma work on the 1.62 beta?

3.0.1.161 is made for ATS 1.61. If you’re playing the 1.62 open beta (since October 20, 2026), wait for Team Reforma to release the updated version along with its Mega Resources.

Can I use Reforma with Coast to Coast or ProMods?

Yes, with Reforma Other Maps Patch placed at the very top, above all maps. It also works for ATS Expansion and CanaMania.

Is Reforma free?

Yes, the base map and Mega Resources are free. The team offers separate paid content, which you don’t need to play.
