What this mod does

California Stop is a traffic mod by ØnYx for American Truck Simulator. It makes every AI vehicle roll through stop signs without coming to a full stop when the intersection is clear. It’s what Americans call a «California stop», «rolling stop» or «Hollywood stop»: slowing down without actually stopping. It has almost 21,000 subscribers.

What it’s for

It cuts down the waits at stop-sign intersections, especially if you use mods that increase traffic density.

Known issue

Three-way and four-way stops don’t work well in the base game, because intersections have a main road and a secondary one. The mod doesn’t fix that. The author advises going through slowly when it’s your turn.

Compatibility

It works with mods that don’t overwrite the «traffic_rules» definition file. If another mod changes the traffic rules, put this one above it. According to the author, it’s compatible with Cip’s Real Traffic Density ATS and many other traffic mods. In October 2026 he clarified that the effect is the same in any driving mode, including Road Trip.

Version

The author updates it with every game version: the September 15, 2026 note says «Updated for v1.61». Before that came the 1.60 (June) and 1.59 (May) updates. It’s under 1 MB.

How to install it

  1. Open the "California Stop" page on Steam Workshop and click "Subscribe".
  2. Launch American Truck Simulator and wait for Steam to finish the download.
  3. Open your profile's Mod Manager and enable the mod.
  4. If you use another mod that changes the traffic rules, put California Stop above it.

No; the author says they're broken in the base game and advises going through slowly.
