What this mod does
Better Tire Grip is a physics mod by ØnYx that improves the wet grip of every SCS tire in American Truck Simulator. It has over 22,000 subscribers.
Why it’s needed
The author explains that, after the latest updates, rain and snow were far too slippery. SCS added the tire physics logic to ATS without adding its parameters, so almost every tire used default values. With the mod, tires behave consistently in the rain, with slightly less traction than in the dry and without losing control.
Tires covered
- All stock ATS tires.
- Those from the Wheel Tuning Pack, Goodyear Tires Pack and Michelin Fan Pack.
Values it adds
Standard front and dual rear: rolling resistance 4.5 and wet grip 1.3. Wide front: 7.5 and 1.35, with a bit more grip but much more resistance. Single rear: 5.25 and 0.975; the author recommends avoiding it.
Version
In May 2026 the author updated it for 1.59. In July, when asked about 1.60, he replied that it does work because SCS hadn’t changed anything. There’s no confirmation for 1.61. It’s about 68 KB.

How to install it
- Open the "Better Tire Grip" page on Steam Workshop and click "Subscribe".
- Launch American Truck Simulator and wait for Steam to finish the download.
- Open your profile's Mod Manager and enable the mod.
- Drive in rain or snow to feel the difference in grip.

Common problems
Does it change dry grip?
The mod adds wet parameters; in the rain grip stays slightly below dry grip.
Which tires should I avoid?
Single rears, which have worse values according to the author.
Does it work on 1.61?
The author confirmed 1.60; there's no confirmation for 1.61.
