What this mod does
Realistic Vehicle Lights Mod is the American Truck Simulator version of the lighting mod by Frkn64, the author of Realistic Truck Physics. For ETS2, its counterpart is on the Realistic Vehicle Lights page. It aims to make headlights, taillights, turn signals and other lights look more like the real thing, without changing gameplay.
What it changes
- Custom high-resolution flares.
- Extended and balanced light visibility distances: you can see vehicles’ lights from farther away.
- Improved light reflections.
- Affects your truck, traffic and other in-game objects with lights.
Compatibility
According to the author, it works in Convoy mode. It conflicts with Non-Flared Vehicle Lights Mod, because both change the same light files: only the one higher up in the Mod Manager applies. For the same reason, it’s best not to combine it with other mods that change flares, like Better Flares, unless you decide which one takes priority.
Installation
The download is a .zip: extract it with WinRAR or 7-Zip and copy the .scs to the mod folder.
Version
Version 7.7 (September 24, 2026) adds compatibility with ATS 1.61 and keeps 1.60. The mod has been around since 2016, and its SCS forum thread is from 2021.

How to install it
- Open the mod's page on Frkn64's website and click Download (it takes you to Modsy).
- Download the version 7.7 .zip and extract it with WinRAR or 7-Zip.
- Copy the .scs file to Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod.
- Enable the mod in the Mod Manager on the profile screen.
- If you use another lights or flares mod, place it below or disable it so they don't overwrite each other.

Common problems
Does it work in Convoy?
Yes, the author lists it as compatible with Convoy mode.
Can I use it with Non-Flared Vehicle Lights Mod?
Not at the same time: they change the same files, and only the one higher up applies.
Does it only affect my truck?
No. It changes the lights on your vehicle, traffic and other objects with lights.
Is it the same mod as the ETS2 one?
It's the same author's ATS version; each game has its own file.
