What this mod does
Volvo D13 Engine Sound is a sound mod by Knights Gaming that changes the Volvo D13 engine sound on both Volvo VNLs in American Truck Simulator: the 2018 model and the new VNL 2025. It builds on the engine sound created by Kriechbaum and uses the Volvo FH5 with the D13TC engine, the latest European version of this 13-liter block, as its reference.
What changes
- New engine sound for the D13 on the VNL 2018 and the VNL 2025.
- Since version 2.5, the VNL 2018 uses the same warning sound as the 2025 model.
- Version 2.0 was a complete rebuild of the mod.
Requirement: the soundproofing mod
In version 2.6 the author moved the cab interior soundproofing into a separate mod, Interior Soundproofing for SCS Trucks and Cars, which Steam marks as a required item. When you subscribe, Steam will offer to add it; enable it in the Mod Manager too so the in-cab sound is the way the author designed it.
Version and credits
The latest update is from August 21, 2026, around ATS 1.60. The author doesn’t list a game version, load order or known issues. The credits mention Kriechbaum, KnightRider and SCS Software. If you like it, the author accepts donations via PayPal and Buy Me a Coffee.

How to install it
- Open the "Volvo D13 Engine Sound" page on Steam Workshop and click "Subscribe".
- Also accept the subscription to "Interior Soundproofing for SCS Trucks and Cars", which Steam marks as a required item.
- Launch American Truck Simulator and wait for Steam to finish downloading the mod.
- In your profile's Mod Manager, enable "Volvo D13 Engine Sound".
- Also enable "Interior Soundproofing for SCS Trucks and Cars".
- Fit the D13 engine on your Volvo VNL at a service shop if it didn't already have it.
