What this mod does
Cold Rain is the second rain mod by Darkcaptain, the author of Realistic Rain. It shares the same technical base, but with different droplet textures for the windows and a colder look. Version 0.48 is compatible with ETS2 1.57 to 1.61 and has around 190,000 subscribers on Steam.
What it changes
- New droplet textures for side windows and windshield, and more drops inside the cab.
- Improved outdoor rain and wheel spray on wet roads.
- Dynamic rain sounds (FMOD) and about 20 thunder variants with a 1 to 5 second delay.
Just like its sibling, it doesn’t touch rain probability, fog or the sky.
Optional add-ons
The author publishes two add-ons, Medium and High, which add even more drops on the windows. They’re optional and you subscribe to them separately.
Compatibility
It works with all trucks, the DLCs and maps such as ProMods, with Sound Fixes Pack and with the default weather. It must go above weather, graphics, map and sound mods. Choose between Cold Rain and Realistic Rain: using both at once doesn’t work. With Grimes’s Autumn Seasons you lose the thunder.

How to install it
- Subscribe to Cold Rain on Steam Workshop.
- If you want more drops, also subscribe to the author's Medium or High add-on.
- In the Mod Manager, place Cold Rain above weather, graphics, map and sound mods.
- Disable Realistic Rain if you had it.
- Restart the game if sounds are missing after adding or removing sound mods.

Common problems
How is it different from Realistic Rain?
They're by the same author and do the same thing, but Cold Rain uses different droplet textures and a colder look. You have to pick one.
Does it make it rain more?
No. It only changes how rain looks and sounds; the Medium and High add-ons only add drops on the windows.
Does it work with ProMods?
Yes, the author lists it as compatible with maps like ProMods and with all DLCs.
