What this mod does
Realistic Rain is the most-subscribed rain mod on the ETS2 Steam Workshop: it has passed one point three million subscribers. Its author, Darkcaptain, has maintained it since 2019, and version 5.2.1 works from 1.54 to 1.61.
What it changes
- Raindrops in the cab with higher-resolution textures and in greater numbers.
- Improved outdoor rain and wheel spray on wet asphalt.
- Dynamic rain sound (FMOD) and about 20 thunderclaps that sound with a 1 to 5 second delay.
It doesn’t touch rain probability, fog or the sky: the intensity is decided by the game or your weather mod. That’s why it can be combined with weather mods, with maps like ProMods and with Sound Fixes Pack.
Before enabling it
It must go at the very top of the Mod Manager, above weather, graphics, map and sound mods. The author asks you to disable the truck’s rain sensor, because it doesn’t get along with the extra drops, and warns that it only works with DirectX 11.
Incompatibilities
Don’t mix it with Cold Rain, by the same author: they touch the same parts of the game. With Grimes’s Autumn Seasons, the thunder stops sounding. If you also play ATS, there’s its version for American Truck Simulator.

How to install it
- Open the mod's page on Steam Workshop and click Subscribe.
- Launch ETS2 and go to the Mod Manager.
- Enable Realistic Rain and move it to the very top, above weather, graphics, map and sound mods.
- Disable the rain sensor in the truck options.
- If you don't hear the new sounds after updating, fully restart the game.

Common problems
Does it change how much it rains?
No. It only changes how rain looks and sounds; frequency is decided by the game or your weather mod.
Can I use it with Cold Rain?
No. They're two mods by the same author that modify the same parts of the game; pick one.
Does it work with ProMods?
Yes. The author lists it as compatible with all trucks, all DLCs and maps like ProMods.
Why doesn't it update or why is there no thunder?
The author recommends unsubscribing, subscribing again and restarting the game after adding or removing sound mods.
