Settings and controls
GIANTS doesn’t publish Steam Deck-specific settings, and Valve says the default settings run well, so start with those. Because of the external controller note, the easiest option is to play with the Deck’s own controls. If you want more battery life, cap the FPS in the Quick Access menu (··· button), under Performance.
How to install FS22 mods on the Steam Deck
With the in-game ModHub
From the main menu, open the ModHub, download the mod and enable it on the mod selection screen when you create or load a savegame. It’s the easiest route on the Deck and the only one that doesn’t require leaving Game Mode. If the mod has dependencies, the game tells you.
Mods downloaded from the author’s website
- Switch to Desktop Mode from the Steam button and the Power menu.
- Download the .zip from the author’s official page. Don’t unzip it and leave the file name as is.
- In Dolphin, show hidden folders with Ctrl + H.
- Copy the .zip into
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1248130/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/FarmingSimulator2022/mods. - Go back to Game Mode and tick it when you load your savegame.
It’s the same folder as Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2022\mods on Windows, just inside the Proton prefix. If the game is on the microSD card, look for compatdata in the card’s library. Watch out for mixing games: FS22 mods don’t work in FS25 and vice versa. Courseplay for FS22, for example, is a separate release from the FS25 one.
If a mod fails on the Deck
The game writes a log, log.txt, in the FarmingSimulator2022 folder of the Proton prefix (the one right above mods). Open it in Desktop Mode with the text editor and look for lines starting with Error or Warning: they usually name the .zip of the problem mod. The most common causes are the same as on PC: an unzipped mod, a renamed file, a missing dependency or a mod made for another game in the series.
Limitations
- Heavy mods. Valve’s test is without mods; big maps and lots of detailed vehicles lower FPS and lengthen loading times.
- Small text. It shows in mod menus packed with information.
- External controller. According to Valve, it isn’t accepted as the primary controller.
- Removing mods from a savegame. If you disable a mod vehicle or building you were using, it disappears. Copy the savegame folder first.
- Multiplayer. Everyone needs the same mod versions.
